Many years ago I was an Active Duty Station-keeper at NMCRC Billings. After 24 years in Navy (82-2006) many of my stories begin with “Back in Billings…” It was at that Center that I truly learned what the term “Citizen Soldier/Sailor” meant and through the rest of my career I defended Navy Reservists with passion. Don was definitely one of those dedicated “CBs” that went above and beyond the call of duty. I remember him always caring about his fellow shipmates as well as asking if the Active Duty needed any help. Even though it has been almost 30 years that I have been in Billings, you do not forget an individual like Don. Condolences to his family at this time. Rest in Peace and Fair Winds, Don.

Don Was my uncle I wish I knew him better! I can only remember one time I know I met him i was quite little and don’t remember details. I never even got to know him. I can only hope that when I pass I will get to meet him in Heaven. I am sad I did not get to know you like a good niece and uncle relationship could be. If I had known you were in Helena were I live too, I would have come to visit you often we could have talked and shared about your life journey and sea adventures in the Navy. I would have loved to tell you how much I wanted to be in the Navy and even tried. My heart hurts knowing i will never get to have even a small conversation or know more about you my uncle. Maybe somehow someday I will get to know more about this side of my family, and build a good relationship with them. Peace for you my Uncle Donny!!
