Donald Richard Dekker “Don” 84, of Helena died Friday morning April 8, 2011 in Helena. Don was born in Boulder, Colorado, March 5, 1927 to Henry J. and Eva May (Brown) Dekker.
He received his education in Colorado and enlisted in the United States Navy August of 1944 and was honorably discharged in June 1946. It was in the Navy where he received his training laying the ground floor for his career.
Don worked for the Bureau of Reclamation at Canyon Ferry for 35 years and retired as superintendent. He and M. Barbara Williams were married April 23, 1979 in Townsend, Montana. They made their home near Canyon Ferry Lake. Don was a member of the Rotary Club in Townsend. He enjoyed his past time in his tool shop, whether with new tool operation or repairing the discarded old tools he would repair to working order.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Dekker; brother, Donald Raymond Dekker. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Helena; Son, Mark (Glenda) Dekker of Littleton, Colorado; daughter, Kertrena (Ed) Lawson of Anaconda; three grandchildren, Ricky, Elizabeth and Chris; 4 sisters-in-law and 5 brothers-in-law on Barbara’s side of her family.
Viewing hours will be from noon to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 at the funeral home.
