DONNA RUTH HECOX STAHL
Donna Ruth Hecox Stahl, 89, passed away December 9, 2011 of natural causes at the Cooney Home in Helena.
She was born on June 1, 1922 in Belgrade to Laurence R. Hecox and Frances E. Biggs Hecox. She grew up and worked in the Gallatin valley. She was married to Edward Nistler and later divorced. In 1940 she married Frank C. Creecy and was divorced in 1962 at which time she moved to Helena and returned to school and earned her GED. She married Phillip E. Stahl in 1968 and later divorced.
Donna worked a variety of jobs in Helena before finally retiring from the Montana Highway Patrol. She became a foster grandparent and very much enjoyed her work. She received many awards for her work in this program. Donna always enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, and crocheting. Her greatest love was owls, and over the years aquired an extensive collection.
She is survived by Brother Donald Hecox of Bozeman, daughters Roberta L Sailer of Bozeman, Gail Campbell of Helena. Six grandsons, Randy A. (Angela)Sailer of Bozeman, Anthony P. Sailer of Los Vegas, James C.(Terri) Creecy of Columbus, Mississippi, Roger W. (Darcel)Campbell of East Helena, Wesley E. Nistler and Richard T. Nistler of Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons, and many extended family members.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her stepfather Carter E. Smyth, a step-brother Gene Smyth, her stepmother Jane Adkins Hecox, and her son Donald A. Nistler, and son-in-law Fred Sailer.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cooney Home for their loving care, St. Peter’s Hospice, and the staff at Anderson, Stevenson, Wilke Funeral Home for their care and assistance.
