In Memory Of

Doreen M. Charlton, age 80, of Helena

September 23, 1945 – November 10, 2025

Doreen Margaret Glass Charlton

In the early morning hours of November 10, 2025, surrounded by her daughters and faithful companion Dudley, Doreen lost her hard-fought battle with cancer, and was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

Doreen was born on September 23, 1945, in Helena, MT to Charles and Doris Glass. She was the third child of six. The family moved from Boulder, MT to Kalispell, MT in 1952, where she lived until graduating from Flathead High School in 1963. In January of 1964 Doreen rode the train from Whitefish, MT to San Franciso, CA to attend school to become a dental hygienist. After completing school she came back to Helena, MT to work for Dr. Madsen

In 1967 she married Edwin Charlton. They moved to Conrad, MT where they started their family with the birth of three girls. The devastating loss of her middle daughter never went away.  In 1977, back in Helena Doreen and Edwin divorced and the life of a single mom began. Doreen worked various jobs including Helena School District, horse racing, and finally retiring from Montana Public Employees Retirement. Always leaving a positive imprint on the people she worked with.

Her greatest treasures were her faith, family, daughters, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Growing up mom was always there for us, whether we needed help with homework or just a shoulder to cry on.

She was a woman of strong faith, family, hard work, and doing what is right. Our mother was a true role model who we will always look up to.

She was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Our mother never knew a stranger and was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone who lives she touched.

Doreen was preceded in death by: Daughter, Baby Sister Vada, Mother – Doris Glass, Father – Charles Glass, Sister – Patricia Burk, Brother-in-law – Dale Burk, Nephews – Ted Burk, Bruce Burk, Sister-in-law – Bonnie Glass, and Great Grandson – Dillon Sieges.

Survived by: Brothers – Gary Glass, John (Brenda) Glass, Carter Glass, Daughters – Tamara Maulding, Tricia Welnel, always her son-in-law Johnathon Cricket Welnel, Grandchildren – Stevie Thomas, Drew Thomas, Kelby (Andy) Sieges, Jadyn Welnel, Jaycie Welnel, Great Granddaughter Zoe Sieges and her 4 legged companion Dudley Do Right, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as her chosen children, grandchildren, and great grandson.

Mother you will aways be in our hearts, we love you so much, be with Jesus

We would like to thank the wonderful care and compassion from the Hospice community. You made this difficult journey bearable with your guidance, kindness and knowledge.

Bless you all.

Tammy and Tricia, I am so saddened by this news. Your mother was a wonderful woman who gave her all to her daughters and grandchildren. She was so proud of you both and her grandchildren and the greats. She was incredible as she support you both in everything you did – and her faith never wavered. I regret that I had not seen her recently but we spoke by phone once in a blue moon. Hold on to your memories. Know she is happy, healthy and having a grand reunion with the family that greeted her upon her passing. My deepest condolences to your entire family.

I am beyond sad to learn of Doreen’s passing. She and I were neighbors for years, raising our children together. We supported each other when we ended up divorced. She was one of the best persons I have ever known. I remember the first Valentine’s Day after my divorce. She showed up that day with a small gift, and asked if I would be her Valentine! I will always love her! Heaven gained a wonderful lady.
