In Memory Of

Doris M. Kuhl, age 86 of Helena

April 12, 1931 – June 22, 2017

Our loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt and our lifelong Friend Doris “Dorie” May Kuhl has passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in her Granddaughter; Mikayla’s arms and made her journey in the arms of our Lord Almighty on June 22, 2017 at 3:47am .

She was born on April 12, 1931 at home as the middle child of five children to her parents Samuel John and Martha Josephine Bogard.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Bishop Gilmore Cathedral High School with the class of 1949.

She served the public working for 30+ years with the Clerk and Recorders Office of Lewis and Clark County. She also served the public with working at the Department of Revenue and the Livestock Commission. After Dorie’s retirement she spent all her time being a devoted mother and grandmother as well as a homemaker.

Dorie’s interests were “Family First” then decorating her very stylish home, cooking, gardening, watching the deer, birds and bunnies in her yard. She also loved playing bingo with her friends and family on birthdays and special occasions.

She had a magnetic and fun personality that attracted lifelong friends and always liked to have fun and did whatever it took to make people laugh.

She was raised with the upmost respect and generous nature as she loved to shop for family and friends and those in need! She always had a gift and card for everyone for every occasion. She touched the lives of everyone who met her. She will be immensely missed by all who knew her. She also enjoyed watching her soap opera with her granddaughter.

Her love for the Lord radiated in everything she did and to everyone she knew and loved with her whole heart and soul.

She had a rare disease called myelodysplastic syndrome in which the bone marrow does not produce red blood cells therefore weekly blood transfusions were needed. Her walk with the Lord guided her through this terrible disease for nearly 10 years without complaint. She did not allow the disease to bring her down. She handled it gracefully. Through this she developed a special friendship with her wonderful physician Dr. Tom Weiner and his fabulous nurses in the Oncology Cancer Treatment Center and his wonderful nurses on the Oncology Floor in the hospital. They would actually call “Dibs” on who was going to take care of Dorie. They all cared for her with unconditional love and laughter.

Our special thanks to all who cared for my Dearest Mother/Grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her son “JJ” James Joseph, her parents Sam & Martha, and sister; Rosie Lindstrom.

Dorie is survived by her daughter Diana, her granddaughters Mikayla Howard and Myriah Smock and her children Kyler and Katy Smock and her brother Joe (Dorothy)Bogard, her sisters Connie Smigaj, and Martha (Jim) Moodie and many nieces and nephews.

Our world will never be the same without our Angel Dorie. She was bigger than life to all her family and we will carry on her teachings.  She most importantly touched our hearts and our Lives in every aspect. She will be truly missed!

If you wish to send a contribution on behalf of Dorie, please send it to St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 1700 Missoula Avenue, Helena Montana 59601. Please see below to offer the family a condolence or to share a memory of Dorie.

Dear family: Please accept my condolences for the loss of Doris. When playing softball with Jim, I spent many hours at their Stuart Homes residence. Doris was always most congenial and her bubbly personality never ended. I also enjoyed all of the family.
