Doris Kamerad, age 92 of Helena passed away July 12, 2011 at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Helena. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 25, 1919 to John and Wilma (Book) Weger. Doris resided in St. Paul until she graduated from high school. After graduation she moved to Missoula, Montana working and attending the University of Montana for a year. Doris was employed in various jobs in St. Paul, Washington, D.C., Washington State, and in Montana. She also had a brief employment at Fort Harrison from 1947 and 1948.
Doris married Nathan B. Kamerad on March 19, 1949. Together they owned and operated Nate’s Hardware and Variety Store on Helena Ave. near the NP Depot until September 1959. Doris was employed for approximately one year for the State of Montana Auditor’s office and then worked for the USDA Veterinary Services, Animal Health Division retiring in 1979. She and Nate enjoyed many activities together, Senior Citizens’ dancing, camping, fishing, hunting, flying and many travels to Alaska, North Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. Doris obtained her private pilot’s license although she accumulated fewer flying hours than Nate.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband in 1983. She is survived by her dearly beloved step daughter, Dona (Ted) Hill of Helena, MT; 3 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; her very close cousin, Frances Ingham of St. Paul, MN, several other cousins, and special friend William Klein of Helena.
Doris will be interred next to her husband at Forestvale Cemetery. At Doris’ request, memorials may be sent in her name to the Shriners Hospital for Children® — Spokane, 911 W.
