Dorothy DeLong, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, passed on to heaven peacefully surrounded by family members at home on August 5, 2015.
One of seven children, Dorothy was born to Edison and Edna Mae Cook in Hysham Montana on May 1, 1926. She married the love of her life, Bob, on July 26, 1947 in Miles City. They lived in many places as they followed Bob’s work as a lineman, eventually moving to Helena in 1971. Together Dorothy and Bob had four children; sons Bruce and Pat, and daughters Marlene and Robin.
Dorothy was a fine homemaker, and creator of countless batches of delicious cinnamon rolls and oatmeal banana cookies. She loved to sew, knit and crochet. Many blankets, garments and diapers for grandchildren came to life in her hands. She also provided daycare in her home where she and Bob loved those children like family.
Preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 47 years, and all of her siblings, Dorothy is survived by her children Bruce (Linda) DeLong of Missoula, Pat (Laurie) DeLong of Helena, Marlene (Jim) McCluskey of Montana City, and Robin (Charlie) Evans of Gooding ID. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jenni (Brandon) Dulaney and Mike Roope of Helena, and Briana, Courtney, Derek Evans and Megan (Jordan) Childs, of Gooding ID, as well as 10 great grandchildren, with one more on the way.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Frontier Hospice for the kindness and loving care provided during her illness.
The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 120 W Riggs St. in East Helena. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, August 14th at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Burial will follow the Mass at 2:30 p.m. at the Mayn Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs. Memorial donations may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
