In Memory Of

Dorothy L. Bovee, age 86, of East Helena

August 24, 1928 – June 2, 2015

Dorothy began this journey on August 24th 1928 during the time when babies were born at home.  She was born in her grandparents Sears mail order house which she was proud to tell, still stands in Bridger MT today.  She then later moved to and grew up in Miles City. She was the second of 6 children born to George and Elsie Miller.

Our beloved mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully in the early hours of June 2, 2015. She joined her husband of 66 years, Bob, who she married on May 25, 1946. She and Bob were not only married for 66 years, but had been “meant for each other” from the time she was 11, when he threw a rock at her and hit her in the head.

She and Bob bought their first brand new home, which they’ve owned for 56 years  in East Helena, in 1959, and raised their family of 4 children, David, Rodger, Greg and Judy there. It was around the same time that she began attending the East Helena Methodist Church and also began lifelong friendships with the home extension club…a group of ladies that have met once a month for well over 50 years.

Dorothy worked for over 25 years as a dietary assistant for the St. John’s and St. Peter’s Hospitals. She was also a member of the East Helena Ladie’s Auxillary VFW Post 10010 for more than 40 years.

Dorothy loved to crochet, many people are kept warm to this day by her Afghans, and her beautiful tablecloths still grace their dining rooms tables. She spent lots of time camping with Bob, and they loved going dancing with friends. Over morning coffee she worked the daily cryptograph, until her failing eyesight no longer allowed her to do so.

Mom had a great sense of humor, and was everyone’s friend. All of her children, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren idolized her, and given time, her new great-great granddaughter Sophie, whom she just met, would have joined that club. She loved family gatherings and being surrounded by those she cared for. If she had her way no one would have ever gone home.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Forrest and Buddy, her husband Bob, her son David and his wife Theresa, her daughter Judy, her daughter-in-law Kathy, and her granddaughter Jana.

She is survived by her Brothers Don and Ken Miller of Miles City;  Sister Anna Mae Hanel  (Tom) of Billings; Sons Rodger Bovee (Rena) of Burley, ID; and Greg Bovee (Marsha) of Jefferson City. Her Grandchildren are Blaine and Aimee Bovee, Veronica and Ken Anderson, Sheri Wickard, Michelle and Brett Arnold, Angela Bovee, Ashley and Travis Ward, Joleen Kline, Jessica Kline, Travis Robinson, Jim Forsman (Keimone), and  Jeanne Forsman.

She also leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

In accordance with her wishes, a Celebration of life will be announced at a later time.

Memorials suggested to East Helena Methodist Church or East Helena Cemetery Association.

    Dear Family:
I worked with Dorothy for many years at St. Pete’s when I was a dietitian there and could always count on her to be there, do her job and have a wonderful smile and attitude. She was a delight to work with. Seeing the obituary brought back many fun memories.

Dorothy was “one of the best’. She was always upbeat and could make you feel good right away. I will miss her at church and talking on the phone. She really was a wonderful lady.
