On May 4, 2018 Dolly passed away from natural causes at Rosetta Assisted Living with the comfort of her family. She was 91 years young.
Dolly was born in Helena, Montana on September 16, 1926. She was the youngest of five children born to Martha Caroline Geigle and Emil Edward (Ed) Liedle.
Dolly attended schools in Helena graduating from Helena High in 1944. On September 11, 1954 she married Robert (Bob) Card. They moved to Juneau Alaska shortly after marrying where Bob was stationed with the Army. Their first two children, Debbie and Bert, were born in Juneau. Upon Bob’s discharge, they moved back to Helena where their son Jim was born.
Dolly began her working career with Western Life shortly after her high school graduation. When she returned to Helena, she began working for the State of Montana, Surplus Property where she worked for over 20 years. She retired in 1983.
During her retirement years, she had the opportunity to travel to such places as Hawaii, England, Scotland, New Zealand and Australia. Her favorite trip was the river boat cruise down the Mississippi. In 2003 she and Debbie took a cruise to Alaska so that she could show Debbie where she and Bert were born.
Dolly was an avid bowler for 50 years. In 1999 she was honored for her service to the bowling community by being inducted to the Helena Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She loved participating with her team in city and state bowling tourneys.
Dolly was also a fierce competitor in any card or board game. Her favorite times were playing games with her family. She especially loved playing pinochle and cribbage with her kids and loved it when she “beat” the other team. When she moved to Rosetta, she could be found engaged in a lively game of hangman or Yahtzee. Her winnings of candy were the delight of her great grandkids who knew right where to find Grandma’s “stash”.
Football season was never long enough. She spent every Sunday, Monday and Thursdays watching NFL. She loved betting against her daughter and scoring on those free dinners! Her favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys but she had a fondness for Bob’s favorite team, Miami Dolphins.
Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents Ed and Martha, sisters Leah Borngraber and Esther (Toots) Spry, and brothers Herbert and Edward (Eddy) Liedle. She is survived by her children, Debbie Morrison, Bert (Deb) Card, Jim (Janet) Card, her grandchildren Stephanie (Drew) Beckert, Lucas Sheridan, Cameron (Tiffany) Card, Janessa Card, Geno Card and Jaclyn Card (Benji Rogers), and great grandchildren, Lori and Kimber Beckert, Nathaniel Card, and Elli Rogers. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Laurie House, Regional Activity Director at Rosetta for her wonderful friendship and companionship to our mother. Dolly hated weekends because there weren’t any games to be played and looked forward to the beginning of every week. She also treasured her new best friend Brian who challenged her at every game played. Also, special thanks to Anne Lenik who was there at every turn and loved Dolly’s spunk! Thanks also to the Rosetta staff that provided care for her.

I was so sorry to hear of Dolly’s passing. My mother lives at Rosetta, and I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Dolly during my frequent visits there. She was such a cheerful and optimistic person; she brought smiles to everyone’s face! And of course, she was the Queen of Yatzee! I’ll miss her optimism and energy. I can only imagine what a big hole she leaves in the lives of friends and family. Please accept my condolences and know that Dolly will live on in my thoughts.

Deb,
I’m so sorry to hear that Dolly passed away. It was a long time ago that I knew her, but I remember she was a pistol – sharp as a tack and a good sense of humor. Condolences to you and all your family.

Our condolences to Debbie and the extended Card family. We remember our first encounter with Dolly when her and Jim bowled on our Thursday night bowling league. We couldn’t believe how someone our parents age could be so much fun! Dolly was young at heart and we always had such a good time with her – many laughs! She sure lived her life to the max…. Love and Hugs!

Dolly, so sad to see you go. We will see you again. Please have the lanes prepped for when we can join you. Debbie, Bert, Jim and the whole family, I am so sorry for your loss.
Dianne (DeeDee) Shultz says
I’m deeply saddened at the passing of my dear special cousin Dolly and send my condolences to you– Debbie, Bert and Jim and your extended families. She was an inspiration to all of us Liedle cousins. In the 1970s it was Dolly who instigated the monthly cousins lunch with all of the local Liedle cousins. In the 1980s she urged me to join her bowling team even though I was a new bowler with an 88 average. I joined, I stayed, had fun and learned a lot from Dolly over those years. 1997 or so Dolly suggested having a Liedle family reunion once a year for cousins from out of town and state. We Helena cousins agreed; thus, I hosted family reunions from 1998 to 2005. Dolly was the first to arrive to help with preparing food and setting up. Helena cousins arrived with food and drinks, I made coffee and lemonade. Liedle cousins and their families came from Nevada to Georgia and many states in between . Dolly was a big part of my life through all the years and I will miss her, so will her Liedle cousins and friends. I have a feeling that she is now having fun, visiting and playing games with her friends and relatives who have gone before her.

Debbie and Family
I’m so sad to hear of Dolly’s passing. I spoke to her not long ago, she was really liking Rosetta, and told me of her candy stash. She was so proud of her family, and spoke of you all often 🙂 Also enjoyed her many stories, a lot of them started with….”I had to laugh”. I will always cherish her time bowling, even when she wasn’t bowling anymore she always stopped in to my office to say hello if she didn’t see me out and about. She was a spitfire up to the end!
So sorry, thoughts and prayers for you all,
Michelle Anderson

Debbie, Bert ,and Jim –
All us bowling alley kids had a great time growing up around the lanes, but among the best parts was that we all had multiple bowling moms, who watched us all and helped raise us into the rotten adults we are today. :o)
Your sweet mom was among those great ladies and I came to know and love your mom. It was through our friendship (and poker games) that we got to keep in touch – right up through the last poker game last fall. We now get to add Dolly’s memories to our crazy stories and recollections.
Please be at peace in that your mom had a good, long life, got to see you and your kids grow, and has returned to her eternal Home.
On behalf of my family (Rehanna, Spencer, Caitlin, William, and Audrey), blessings to you and all your kids and grandkids. You and your mom each hold a special place in my heart.
