In Memory Of

Douglas J. Fell, age 91, of Helena

March 24, 1924 – April 18, 2015

Douglas John Fell, 91, beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, died April 18, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, MT.  He was born on March 24, 1924 at home in Rigby, ID to Harry and Viola (Shelton) Fell.  He was the second born of four sons.  Doug grew up and attended school through the 8th grade and then worked on the family farm.  He served in the 5261st Armored Division of the Army during WWII.  He was honorably discharged following an injury.

Doug married Lois Gilstrap on June 27, 1942 at the Methodist Parsonage in Idaho Falls, ID.  Out of this loving union a daughter, Donna, was born on January 20, 1943.  The family moved to Townsend, MT in 1949, where Doug farmed and drove trucks hauling potatoes and sugar beets.  From 1950 – 1958 he worked as the foreman of the Park Trail Ranch in Toston, MT.  In 1958 he stared his Federal career working for the Bureau of Reclamation and Land Management running irrigation projects in Toston and the Helena Valley until 1975.  Following this job, he worked as a fireman at the Fort Harrison VA Center and eventually retired in 1989.

Doug was preceded in death by both parents, his two brothers Earl and Eldon, his wife Lois and his son-in-law George.  He is survived by his daughter, Donna Miskovich;  3 grandchildren, Tammy Gibson, Jeannie Wohlfrom and Kathleen(Aaron) Hahm;  5 great grandchildren, Patrick Meyer, Meghan Walczak, Kelsey Wohlfrom, Nathan Wohlfrom and Clara Belle Hahm;  1 great-great granddaughter Faith Meyer;  5 step-sisters, Anne(Gale) Ossmen, Beatrice (Jeff) Judy, Carol(Long) Tang, Barbara(Dennis) Hotten, Patty (Gerrald) Hendriks;  step-brother Richard (Ellen) Fell and numerous nieces and nephews.  Cremation has taken place.  A private family memorial gathering will be held in Rigby, ID at a later date.
