Douglas P. Vimpany
October 24, 1959 – October 5, 2025
Douglas P. Vimpany, age 65, of Helena, Montana, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Doug was born on October 24, 1959, to Richard and Lavonne Vimpany. From an early age, he demonstrated a deep sense of service, honor, and adventure—values that would guide his entire life. He grew up in the Boy Scouts, developing a lifelong appreciation for nature, self-reliance, and camaraderie.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Doug served his country with distinction for 22 years. His military journey took him around the world. While stationed in Spain, he met the love of his life, Cindy Krahenbuhl, and together they began their life of love and adventure. Their first son, Richard, was born in Spain, and their second son, Stephen, was born during Doug’s service in Japan.
After retiring from the Navy, Doug continued to serve his community with 14 years in law enforcement and an additional 8 years of duty in the Federal Reserve, upholding the values of integrity, protection, and dedication throughout his career.
Doug married Cindy on August 6, 1983, and together they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and brother—always putting others before himself and leading with a quiet strength.
Doug had a deep love for the outdoors and lived life with curiosity and passion. He found joy in fishing, camping, working on cars, and practicing marksmanship. He also had a lifelong passion for music, especially playing the drums, and performed in a 1950s rock band—sharing his rhythm and love of classic rock with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; his children, Stephen and Haley Vimpany, and Richard and Allie Vimpany; his treasured grandchildren, Kyler, Axyl, Adam, Rusty, Madison, and Maysen; his mother, Lavonne Vimpany; and his sister, Debbie.
Doug will be remembered for his kind heart, steadfast loyalty, dry wit, and the calm, reliable presence he brought to every room. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched through his service and friendship.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by military funeral honors at Forestvale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Doug’s memory to cancer support resources, veterans’ organizations, or law enforcement support charities of your choice.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my friend Doug. Our friendship was centered around hot rod trucks, and his desire to meticulously build one that was as fast as it was beautiful. And he did. He was extremely detail oriented, knew how he wanted his truck to look and perform, and insisted on perfection. Doug was a cool guy and a great friend to me and I will miss him. Condolences to Cindy and family.
