DUSTIN “DUB” LEE CAMPBELL, 38, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on the afternoon of October 1, 2020 after a short but aggressive battle with pancreatic cancer.
Dustin was born in Helena, Mt., January 3, 1982 to Thomas Campbell (Marilyn) of Townsend and Rena Spangler (Bob) of Montana City. He attended school in Helena, graduating from Helena High School in 2000. He graduated from MSU Helena in 2002 with a Computer Science degree and has worked in that field ever since starting at CCT, then on to Intermountain Children’s Home as their IT Manager and most recently at SoFi Financial as a Senior Staff Engineer on the Core Infrastructure Team.
“Dub” was a self taught musician and a talented singer/song writer mastering the drums and guitar in his high school years. He loved performing for many local venues with his band members “Tonight We Ride”. They traveled across the country playing music and enjoying life to the fullest. He completed 200+ episodes of the pod cast “We Had a Good Life” with his brother, (and the other half of his whole) Matt Campbell.
He met the absolute love of his life and true soul mate, Darci Anderson, in 2011 and they married in 2014 becoming a family of three with daughter Lola, whom he adored. His love for both of them was unequalled by any. His main concern and dedication through they’re short life together as a family was to take care of “his girls”, and of course, his fur buddies and fellow duck warriors, Shady Sadie and Leonard aka Puggins.
To convey the sentiment of his friends and family, Dub was the real deal. Hands down the best person you’d ever know. He loved everyone and everywhere you went with him, he made instant friends, often for life, and gave them hugs. (He was THE BEST hugger ever!) He had 38 precious years with us and he made the most of it. He gave 120% and went big with everything he did. And, was good at it! From music to movies to computers, he put his love, heart and soul into everything he did. He was humble and kind but always commanded the room wherever he was. If there was something he didn’t know, he’d take a week, learn whatever he needed to, as if he had invented it, and throw down like an artist. He was immeasurably funny, quick witted and could make anyone smile, if not belly laugh, within minutes of being in his presence. He was everyone’s best friend and had friends from all walks of life. He was generous, often to a fault. He often helped so many people less fortunate than himself, and never expected anything in return. He was just a good, kind soul who lived his whole life by the golden rule. He loved his family which pretty much included anyone that he had ever met, known and subsequently loved.
He is survived by his wife Darci Anderson Campbell; daughter Lola Moon; parents Thomas Campbell (Marilyn) and Rena Spangler (Bob); brothers Matthew Campbell, Belgrade; John Campbell, Helena; Chad Campbell and Brock Campbell, Billings; and sisters Brandy Spangler, Helena and Trisha Wilson, Arvada, Co.
His passing leaves a void in so very many souls that remain behind and there are so many that are better people because he touched their lives. He would want to remind everyone that knew him and loved him to keep loving, keep laughing and be good to each other and especially: “Everyday is a gift y’all!”
A big thank you to St. Peters Oncology Department and Hospital Unit and to St. Peters Hospice. Their care and compassion for him and his family were so very appreciated.

Dub was one of the smartest, kindest, and generally one of the best people I have ever known. His jokes and quick wit were sure to make you laugh and his post-its on the office “idea wall” were the best! RIP Donkey Doug and may all your post-it note ideas come true for you.

I only knew him as Dustin. He was a fiercely intelligent and gentle man. His kindness and gentleness sometimes hid that intellect. We loved Dustin for all of those features; intelligence, kindness and humanity. Too soon to lose such a fine man. There aren’t many like him.

Let me tell you about one of the most amazing persons to have ever lived, his name is Dub. That man had an instinctual way to tell if you were having a bad day and knew exactly how to cheer you up. Dub was hilarious and creative and the hugs weren’t too bad either. We miss you Dub.

Dub touched so many lives and has left a legacy here in Helena and for sure at SoFi. Dub was funny, smart and great aty working with people but more than that he was an awesome friend. There was not a single person he did not or could not befriend. Really miss you Dub, thanks for all you have done for all of us.

I’ve know of Dub since he went to high school with my kids and I knew him at Intermountain and then he sat next to my son, Barry, at SoFi. It seems like a long time. But not enough. He was always an individual—smart, funny, kind and very talented. What a loss. Rock on, Dustin!

A truly one-of-a-kind individual. One who knew no strangers. He was always there with a hug at my lowest and had a way like none other to bring out the best in me. I’ve only known him for a few years, yet the impression he’s left on me is forever. I truly struggle to find words to express my emotions for this playa.

I had people remark that Dub and I shared a lot of the same inflections when we spoke. And maybe that is why it was so easy for me to talk with him. But I think it was just because made it so easy to have a relationship with him. He just plain made it easy. I’m going to miss him. Can you imagine him in heaven talking with God, what that must be like. Love you Dub.
