Edith was born August 28, 1916 in Austin, Texas to William Herbert and Lillie Frances (Walden) Cunningham. Edith lost her mother in 1924 when she was only eight years of age. In 1930 the family moved to Littlefield, Texas to farm.
Edith graduated from Littlefield, Texas High School in 1934. After graduation, Edith worked on the family farm until she and her sister Lois went to San Diego, California in 1942. She became a civilian employee at North Island Naval Air Station. In 1948 she moved to Orange County, California to work at El Toro Marine Base, where she continued as a civilian employee until retirement in 1980.
In 2017, just prior to her 101st birthday Edith moved from her own home in Irvine into Sunrise Assisted Living in Santa Ana. She moved in early 2022 to Touchmark Assisted Living in Helena, Montana, to be closer to family.
Edith’s priorities all of her adult life have been her close personal relationship with God, and her fellowship with those who have a similar relationship with God.
Edith is survived by her sister Patsy Campbell of Anadarko, OK. Edith is also survived by her two nephews, their families and many wonderful friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, William Herbert and Lillie Frances Cunningham, her step-mother Lillie Belle Cunningham, her brothers W. H. III and Luther Cunningham, and her sisters Virginia Harris, Cora Nell Swayzee, Lois Smith, Ruth Culp and Naomi Chavez.
The family is grateful to the staff of Touchmark Assisted Living for their kindness and care of Edith during her short time in their facility. They are also especially grateful to Travis and Sally Harritt, Ken Hemstreet, Ruth Jacobs, and George and Gretchen Terlaak for their care for Edith for the past several years. Tony and Karoline Chavez says
Edith had our wedding reception in her home June 1962. We have a sweet picture of her serving us. She shared her life with us throughout the years. Several years ago we followed her as she drove her car to her home after Sun AM meeting at Travis and Sally Harritt’s. She went with us to lunch and back to her home for naps. She went with us to gospel meeting. Daughter Darrien Burwell, and Blaise Tony and I visited her at her lovely apartment at her retirement home – reminiscing the past years. Darrien and I were guests at her 105th birthday brunch with Sally Harritt hosting a number of Edith’s friends. Tony and Karoline Chavez.

Edith’s sweet smile and laughter will be missed. Her life was a Lighthouse in the midst of a Storm for so many of us while we were growing up. Her Love of God, dinners, meeting, phone calls, and Friendship has been an example for us for over 65 years. She is a Jewel. Susan Boren Wong
