Edna Marion Johnson passed away early on the morning of July 24, 2013 at Elkhorn Rehab Center in Clancy, MT tended by her family. She was 90 years old.
Edna was born July 14, 1923 to William and Esther Carlson on the family farm near Detroit Lakes, MN. She was the sixth of ten children. She attended school in Detroit Lakes and graduated in 1941. Furthering her education she attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead. She worked her way through school housecleaning and babysitting and various other jobs. Early in WWII, Edna and her sister Helen ventured to San Francisco to work in the shipyards. Upon her return to Minnesota, Edna spent five years teaching in a one-room schoolhouse.
Edna married Jack Miller in December 1948. They moved to Montana in 1952 and had three children. They were later divorced. Edna was employed as a secretary by Mountain Bell for 25 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Eagles Aux. , VFW Aux., and the DAV Aux.
Edna married Curtis Johnson in 1984. They resided in York for a number of years before moving closer to Town. Edna and Curt wintered in Yuma, AZ where she enjoyed shopping trips to Mexico returning with trinkets for her Montana family. She enjoyed gardening and tending her many flowers and houseplants. She loved the color blue and had quite a collection of mostly cobalt blue knick-knacks and various items. She also loved to get dressed up and bejeweled for a night on the town.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Curtis; brothers Herbert, Joseph, Willard, Harold, and Wesley Carlson; and sisters Helen Giske and Edith Olson.
Edna is survived by her children Carla (Tom) Smith, Twyla Busch (Harold Green) and Marty Miller; Step-daughters Marlyne Johnson and Nancy Macias; Grandchildren Tom Smith, Tim and Travis McEwen, Shannon Gardner and Kelly Hueth; Step-grandchildren Lauren Chan, Brandon and Andrew Macias; and great-grandchildren Mallory, Talon, Ashley and Logan McEwen, Samantha and Garrett Smith and Ella and Ahna Hueth. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Osten and Joanne Johnson.
A memorial service celebrating Edna’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. Burial will follow the memorial service at Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. Memorial s in Edna’s name are suggested to the Lewis & Clark Humane Society P.O. My sincere condolences to the family of Edna Marion Johnson – I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in many beautiful memories and talents of Mrs. Johnson at this difficult time. The Bible gives us hope that soon the Creator will end all suffering, pain, and death. (Revelation 21:4) Also we have the hope of being with our loved ones who have been resurrected (John 5:28-29). The promise of Paradise, the perfect conditions God intended for mankind will be fulfilled including God’s “will being done as in Heaven also up on Earth ” (Matt 6:9, 10).
