In Memory Of

Edward Claud “EC” Lewing

April 28, 1922 – October 2, 2010

Edward Claud (EC) Lewing, at the age of 88, departed from this earth on October 2 nd , 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sally (Trankel) Lewing, and their combined families. Ed had 7 children with his late wife, Dolly Marie (Tobol) Lewing. Sally had 7 children by her late husband, James Walter Trankel. Their blended family consists of 14 children, 44 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way.

Names of the children of Ed Lewing are: Yevonne and Gary Reese, Deborah A. Burns, Ken and Theresa Lewing, Claudia Lewing, Edward Donald Lewing, Rhonda Elliott and Stan, and Wanda Lynn Howell (deceased).

Names of the children of Sally Lewing are: Mary Trankel and Don Gilder, Crystal Yetter, Suzi & Kendall Broadwater, Nancy & Steve Harrop, Diane Trankel, James and Arlene Trankel, and Thomas and Linda Trankel.

Ed’s love for music has influenced musical careers of countless musicians throughout his entire life. He loved to sing and had the ability to make any musical instrument sound heavenly, but preferred his guitars above all.

He played with many local and national musicians. His ability to build amplifiers and guitars from scratch has endeared him to the hearts of many professional musicians locally and throughout the United States. Until his very last day, professional artists and friends were still seeking his expertise and asking him to “Lewing-ize” their instruments.

Ed was a Veteran of WWII. He also spent many years working at the VA in the medical department.

We all knew when Ed was in the store. His whistling was always heard before you would see him. His Southern Charm warmed the hearts of all who met him and he loved to work in his beautiful gardens whenever the sun was shining.

Services will be held at Retz Funeral Home, 315 E 6 th Avenue, Helena, Montana on Wednesday, October 6 th , 2010 at 10:00 a.m. As a World War II Veteran, Ed will receive a burial with full Military Honors.

So shocked and sorry to hear of Eddie’s passing. I looked forward to more great stories and music. Please know you both had a great impact on me. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him.

    My love,

I wanted to leave a note here, Sally, just for later memories. A lot of us will be there for you, you’ve inherited a large “family”.

I don’t this person, I just want to leave a note, maybe it will never be seen, but I opened up the inside of my 1971 Fender Twin Reverb amplifier, and inside it handwritten on the chasis “Repaired by Ed Lewing sept. 1975” I just for the heck of it thought I would google the name and see if I could possibly see whoever did repairs on my amp, just wanted to say very cool that something he worked on is still running great! and I will never forget his name now.
