Edward Anton Gasser, age 84, of Helena, passed away April 10, 2018 in Helena from Natural Causes.
Ed was born September 8, 1933 in Jardine, Montana, to Anton and Rose (Mikolch) Gasser. Even though he was born in September, he always celebrated his birthday on August 8th. He graduated from Jefferson County High School, Boulder, in 1952. Ed is a Korean War veteran who served our country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956 before being honorably discharged.
Ed married Arla Ulsher in Boulder, Montana, November 24, 1956 and enjoyed 35 years together until her passing on October 18, 1991.
Ed worked for the Uranium Corp of America in Wicks, MT from 1956 to 1958. He then worked as an apprentice rising to a Master Printer for Montana State Publishing Co from 1958 to 1970. He then went on to work as a Security Guard for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in 1970. The bank recognizing his skills as a Master Printer moved him to their logistics department where he printed all of their correspondence and became the Purchasing Agent for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis before retiring in 1996.
Ed loved to bowl and bowled many years at the old Imperial Lanes. He enjoyed golf and collecting coins and clocks, especially cuckoo clocks. Ed was a member of the American Bowling Congress and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #16.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arla; sister, June Erickson, and a brother-in-law, Ed Erickson. He is survived by his children, Maj. Guy A. Gasser, USA (Ret.) and Virginia L. (Cecil) Gasser of Florissant, MO; Wendy M. and Robert M. Kober of College Station, TX; and Scott (Bam) E. and Heidi A. (Leitzke) Gasser of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Valerie M. Gasser of Collingdale, PA; Guy A. Gasser II, Victoria N. Gasser, and Alexander Gasser all of Wilmington, DE; Raquel A. Kober of Boston, MA; Zachary A. Kober of Idaho Falls, ID; Tyler J. and MacKenzie K. Gasser of Billings, MT. Ed is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Elicegui (Gasser) of Sparks, NV and a half sister, Betty Smallfield of North Platt, NE.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., with a reception to follow the service in the Social Hall of the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Basin Cemetery in Basin, MT, following the reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the VFW Post 10010, East Helena, or Frontier Home Health and Hospice, Helena.
