Edward James (Jim) Moyle passed away in his sleep on January 12, 2012. He had been battling his second bout of oral cancer. He was a resident of Elkhorn Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clancy.
Jim was the fourth of seven children born to Walter C. Moyle and Peggy Knapp DeHaan. He was born on March 19, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio. He was 3 years old when his family moved to Montana. He had resided in Helena since 1957.
Jim attended May Butler, Central and Helena Jr. High schools. He graduated from Helena High in 1969 and then joined the United States Air Force after high school.
Jim had worked for Wong’s Restaurant and the Parrot Confectionery Store in Helena. He had met Dick Wolstein, who taught him his trade as a perfa taper.
Jim was well known in Nikkon product sales and enjoyed hunting and music. He was a good friend to many people and was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob. Many of his friends supported him during his illness; Joe Moore, Hank Muchmore, Jim Romsa, Tom Gustin, Dianne Langenfus and Sid Burgess to name a few.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mark A. Moyle and Robert F. Moyle. He is survived by his siblings, Lauri (Dean) Lofthouse of Helena, MT, David W. Moyle of Canby OR; Mindy (John) Richardson of Bothel, WA and Maryanne (Jim) Zimmer of Helena, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wed., Jan. 18, 2012 at Retz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. Jim helped us out a lot while we were building ExplorationWorks 5 years ago. He enjoyed all the exhibits and activities as much as the kids did, and he donated a wonderful time-lapse photograph of the sun barely rising over an Alaskan town at winter solstice.

I met Jim when I 22 years old. What I remember about him the most is he always had smile for you and when he laughed the whole room would light up.
He never said a bad word about anyone nor would listen to anyone who did.
He was good and gentle man. He will be missed by the people who new him.

Jim was certainly one of the nicest people I’ve met. Jim’s smile would light up a room with his grin and his sparkling eyes.He would be the first person to listen to a soul that needed help. I hadn’t seen Jim in a couple of years and saw him just days before he passed. His body was wasted but his grin was the same and his eyes still sparkled with mischievous glint. He will be missed.

I have heard somewhere that the measure of a Man is not in Material “things” he has gained or the wealth in his bank, but the loyalties of his friendships. If this is so, Jim was the richest Man I have ever known. I was fortunate enough to spend his final days with him and met some of these friends. He was greatly loved and respected by many from all walks of life. He never lost his smile and he never stopped caring for others. Be at peace now Jimmer…no more pain.

I’m grateful I knew Jim, although not well. I do know from watching that he was very committed to his Nicotine Anonymous meeting for years–there weren’t many other attendees, but Jim was always there waiting for them if and when they did come.
