She attended grade school and high school in West Hartford and went on to attend St. Joseph College there, graduating in 1945. Eileen moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the Paraguayan and Uraguayan embassies. She took trips to Cuba and Mexico with her friends.

She also worked as a Spanish and French translator for the U.S. Joint Publications Service.

Eileen was involved in the Altar Society in both Missoula and Helena. She was a PTA member during her kids’ school years. She also loved to play bridge. Eileen was a voracious reader, particularly the last few years when she didn’t get out much.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; son, John; and sister, Bea Steeves.

She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Effing of Helena, Kathy (Bruce) Nettleton of East Helena, and Teresa Effing of Hamilton. She is also survived by seven grandsons, Scott Effing (Suzy Holley) of Phoenix, Ryan, Tyler and Jeremy Nettleton, Jean Freeman, Tim Wiseman and Dylan Zech; and one great-grandson, Landon Holley.

A rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be noon Thursday, October 6th at the Cathedral of St. Helena.
