Elizabeth McDonnell, longtime resident of Helena passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 23, 2012. She was 79 years old.
Elizabeth was born on November 15, 1933 to Norman Ernest and Lucy Elizabeth (Ashlock) Korn in Missoula, Montana. She lived in Stevensville to the age of eight, at which time her family began a series of moves thought out Montana. She graduated from Gardner High School and found work at Yellowstone National Park performing clerical duties.
In 1953, Elizabeth with her parents to Helena and was employed by the State of Montana. She married Nolan Arthur McDonnell in 1954 and moved to Great Falls where together they began raising five children. In 1969, the family moved back to Helena and Elizabeth returned back to state employment, retiring in 1986.
Elizabeth is survived by all her children: Norman (Beth) McDonnell of Seattle; Timothy (Christina) McDonnell of Helena; Robert McDonnell of Helena, Mark (Tobie) of Helena, and Lucy Clouse of Missoula. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren , three great-grandchildren and her brother Robert Korn of Swan Valley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death is her husband, parents, brother and sister-in-law Dr. Norman (Patricia) Korn of Minneapolis, and her sister-in-laws Agnes Slattery and Ruth Korn.
Graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Peter’s Episcopal Cathedral, 511 N. Park Ave, Helena, MT 59601.
