On Monday, May 18, Mae Walchuk was called home to our Heavenly Father. It was unexpected as she had been in good health but her passing was peaceful with her husband Leo at her side.
Mae was born On September 15, 1932 in their family home in Ronan, MT. She and Leo were married in August 1950 and shared almost 70 years of a happy marriage. Mae is survived by Leo and her five children: Don (Molly), Eddy, Mike (Terri), Pat and Renee’ (Barry) her sister Gerry and brothers Walter and Dennis (Bonnie). Mae was the proud matriarch of this large family, but the lights of her life were her 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was “Auntie Mae” to too many nieces and nephews to mention.
Mae was the rock and the heart of the Walchuk family. She was most happy when camping at Flathead Lake surrounded by her grandchildren. Her life was grounded in a deep faith that she shared with her husband and family. She took loving care of so many children through her work as a secretary at Lincoln Elementary School. You cannot find a person she met that didn’t consider her a friend and any post on Facebook was sure to have a sweet comment from Mae. She always had a bright smile and a big hug for everyone and undoubtedly will be there to share both when we get to be with her again.
Due to COVID 19 regulations the Funeral Mass on Friday will be limited to family only. On Thursday, evening, May 21, the family will be greeting friends at the visitation from 5-7 pm held at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. Interment will take place at the Ronan Cemetery on Friday, May 22 at 2:30 pm.
A memorial gift may be made to the Pearl and Peter Walchuk Memorial scholarship fund at Carroll College. Please visit below to offer a condolence to the family or to share a memory of Mae.

She was a wonderful person and always had a smile on her face. I have seen her over the years and she always smiled and spoke. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Walchuk Family,
We were so sorry to hear about Mae. She was such an incredible mentor and advocate to our girls when they were at Lincoln Elementary. She was definately no pushover but all the kids knew that she was always there for them. All the years later she still asked about the girls when I would see her at the dental office I worked at. She always had such a positive attitude and a beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Leo, Renee and all the family,
We were so saddened to hear of Mae’s passing. What a shock. Since we moved to Billings I was thinking about you all and missing our chats after mass at St. Mary’s. Mae was such a role model for me as I started work for the school district. We were always in conversation trying to track down the principal we shared between our schools. We had many laughs and jokes. What a lady! What a beautiful life! I will cherish all the memories we had. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

It hasn’t been that long since I saw Mae shopping around town. It was always fun to visit with her. She was upbeat and very positive. Most of my memories of Mae (and the family) come from growing up across the street from them. Mae always came out to the front porch and whistled to gather her kids. It is fun to think back on childhood memories. I am especially thinking of Leo and the family at this time. It is hard to think that I won’t see her around town and get a chance to visit. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Leo, Mike, and the entire family, I am so sorry for the loss of Mae. When I heard the news, my first memory was how much my Mom liked her. I was in the first grade when Dad was leaving Carroll. Mom said that Mae called her, offered support, and invited all of us to dinner. It meant the world to my Mom and she talked about it many years later.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mae was the heart of Lincoln School and, like so many parents, I was blessed to know her for many years. She shared her endless compassion, wisdom and grace with every member of the school. I can see her still, hands upon a child’s shoulders, leaning to whisper some encouragement in their ear. One Christmas she gave my son, and probably every fourth grader, a smiling snowman ornament, her name neatly printed on the back. Each year when I hang that ornament on the tree, I hear the song of her laughter, I remember the twinkle in her eyes. It is a gift she gave all of us. Joy.
Our heartfelt condolences to all of her family and friends at this time of loss and sadness.

I am so sorry to hear about Mae. I knew Mike in high school and found him to be a great guy, which I attributed to his family. Then after college I started teaching at Four Georgians and worked with Mae. Now I knew why Mike was such a great guy. Mae was the kindest, most helpful person I knew. She always had a bright smile and loving way to listen and add her thoughts! She will be missed by everyone. My thought a and prayers are with you at this hard time.
Kendra Selser says
I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of working with Mae at Lincoln School. She was the best, always so kind to all the children & helpful to the staff. When Mae called me to come(as the school nurse)I knew it was serious, because she handled with finesse all the routine minor playground injuries. Her common sense was unequaled.
My thoughts & sympathy to you, her family.
