So sorry to see your mother’s obituary this morning in the paper. We hope she passed peacefully and you will be comforted by your memories. Steve’s mom is also 91 but in good health. But, she told me again just yesterday that she is ready to go. It’s a hard thing to let her know it’s ok. Hope you find peace with her loss.

Joyce was a special friend, who greatly enriched my life. Bill & I spent many pleasant
evenings with Joyce & Carroll – cooking out or out to eat fish. We always laughed at
Bill’s & Carroll’s corny jokes. Their yard was a showplace in spring – they worked hard
to keep it that way. When Joyce had ladies pot luck – we all fought to get the first hot yeast
roll. Dispite Joyce’s pain & difficulty moving, she never complained. My heart is filled with
tears, but the brightest star tonight will be Joyce shining her smile on us. The world is
a better place because of her presence.

Joyce often spoke of her mother to whom she was very devoted. We laughed about the
trials of being mothers and wives & how we longed for a slower and more gentle
pace, Talked about sacrifices everyone willingly made for WWII – yes, we were flag wavers.
The four of us often disgussed Bible passages & how they affected our lives. There was
a feeling of peace when we were together. She touched many lives in Gastonia – especially
mine. When Princess Bella was born, no one had ever seen such a beautiful child and
Joyce adored her. My memories will go into my treasure chest.

I had the great privilege and joy of serving this wonderful lady meals on wheels. She shared her story of her beloved telephone with me. She was truly a “Southern Belle”. Rest in Peace Dear Lady. Your Humble Servant, Duzzie Stolp
