On the morning of Sunday December 14th, 2025, Elwyn (Pat) Patterson passed away at the age of 95.
Pat was born in Charlotte, Michigan on June 29th, 1930, to Earl & Lura Patterson. He was one of their two children, the older brother to Barbara Hicks.
Pat led an impressive, full, and long life. He served in the Army as a Military Police from 1951-1953. He then went on to work at General Motors as a supervisor for 35 years. He married the love of his life Jo Ann in 1958, and they shared a beautiful, loving marriage for 67 years. Together they shared four boys, Gary, Michael, Mark, and Craig.
Pat & Jo Ann lived together in Michigan, Florida, California, and Montana. In all four states they made many close friends, whom they still kept in touch with. Most of who they met through their churches.
Attending church and serving the Lord gave Pat the greatest sense of peace. His faith in his Lord and Savior is what got him through life. Pat always trusted in God’s plan and knew He would never fail him.
Pat is survived by his wife Jo Ann Patterson, his sons Gary (Eileen) Collins, Michael Patterson, his daughter-in-law Josie Patterson, his grandchildren Michael Patterson, Erika (Jeffrey) Grewett, Kara Patterson, Melissa (Fran) Patterson, and Matthew (Julia) Patterson, and his great-grandchildren Zachariah Church, Scarlett Grewett, Ariel Martin, and Autumn Grewett.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Lura Patterson, his sister Barbara Hicks, and his sons Mark Patterson, and Craig Patterson.
Services will be held at Liberty Baptist Church on Monday, December 22nd at 11am located at 211 Sierra Road West in Helena. Burial will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison.

Jennifer Shuler says
I’ll never forget Uncle Pat bringing over his new cars offering to give us a ride. It was such a thrill for us to ride in whichever new car it was. He was very proud of them. Or the uncooked hotdogs – who doesn’t love them! Or the wild ride through the mountains when my mom and I visited. But the best times were probably just hanging out on that porch swing talking about our faith. I love you so much Uncle Pat and I will never forget you. Always in my heart, your niece, Jennifer
