Eugene (Gene) (Bud) Floyd Hurt Jr., age 70, passed away January 22, 2019, with family by his side in Helena, Montana. Gene was born October 2, 1948 in Savannah, Illinois to Eugene Floyd Hurt Sr. and Bradley Gay Hurt (Martin).
Gene proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He entered the service in February 1966 and was honorably discharged February 1969.
Gene was united in marriage with DeEtta Seeberger March 26, 1977 in Glendive, Montana. He was a man of many trades and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Gene was a skilled mechanic and while residing in Nevada he was an Owner/Operator of G&G Auto. The oil fields brought him to Montana where he worked in the oil fields as a Cement Supervisor, a Pump Truck Operator, hauling cement and as a Rig Hand. Gene also earned a BS in Human Services at Eastern Montana College – Montana State University Billings.
Gene sustained a spinal cord injury in 1986. He was able to overcome many obstacles and did just about everything doctors told him he would never be able to do. He was a one of a kind. His smile was contagious and easily given. He is known for his funny phrases, his sense of humor and his vast vehicle knowledge. He had a teaching gift and could direct anyone (even his wife) through mechanical tasks including the removal of a transmission from a vehicle in the front yard. Gene loved camping, fishing, hunting, water sports, animals, people, vehicles, music and western movies. His favorite being a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. He was fond of warm weather, often speaking of moving back to Nevada where he was raised. He enjoyed spending time with family. Gene loved his children, grandchildren and the many little ones that came to visit. He always had an M&M to share, a warm lap for snuggling, for getting your back scratched, to read a book, to watch cartoons and to listen to their stories. Of course, he always had a few of his own to throw in there too.
Gene is survived by: his wife, DeEtta Hurt (Seeberger); sons, Darren Ware and Russell Hurt; Daughters LaRae Hurt, Ashley Hurt (Chris Erickson) and LeeAnn Hurt; brothers, Sam Welch and Doug Welch; sisters, Nancy Gackle (Dave), Susan Suter, Carol Hobbs (Dale), and Janet Welch; grandchildren, Trenton, Brett, Kassidy, Braten, Landon, Charlie, Cameron, Elizabeth, Jacquelynn and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Xander and Olivia. Gene is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews. Gene is preceded in death by: father, Eugene Floyd Hurt Sr. and mother, Bradley Gay Hurt; brothers, Chuck Hurt, and Robert Jason Hurt; grandson, Colby Jason Hurt.
Fly high my love, but keep your wings under 90 in town.

I believe I met him and most of the family at one of the reunions. I know my Father (Chuck Hurt out in Iowa) was so elated and thrilled to have the chance to meet some of you. My thoughts and prayers go out to you as you lay Eugene to rest. May you find comfort in all your memories. Love and hugs, Anne Hurt

I don’t know of a time when Gene didn’t have a smile on his face. I’m just sorry our paths did not cross at a class reunion. But I am sure we will see each other again some day. You ALL are in my thoughts & prayers. RIP Gene!
