On the evening of May 24, 2013, Flora Jean Green passed away at home surrounded by her children. Flora celebrated her 80th birthday in March of this year. Flora Jean Fairbanks Green was born in Oegma, Minnesota to Nellie Mary McKeig Fairbanks on March 17, 1933. She married Orville Green on June 23, 1951 in Cass Lake, Minnesota. Together they had 5 children; James Orville, Harold Roy, Cheryl Ann, Tammy Lorene and Wade Allen. Flora worked several jobs in Helena including owning and operating Flo’s Cheese Shop on Broadway Avenue and The Dutch Maid on Rodney Street in the late 1970’s. Flora was involved in the St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in East Helena, enjoyed playing cards, quilting and especially visiting with family and friends. Flora also enjoyed talking on the phone.
From Flora’s grandson Jason Manning “My grandmother was an incredible example of consistency. My wife Jeannette and I both attribute our faith and beliefs based in her example of a practicing Catholic. Grandma once gave us the secret to a long term marriage based on her experience, which we continue to practice today and strive to follow her example. I will miss her phone calls and letters the most.”
Flora was preceded in death by her granddaughter Mandy Green, daughter Tammy Maynard (John), her husband Orville and her son James. She is survived by son Harold, daughter Cheryl and son Wade Green, all of Helena, Eight grandchildren; Jason (Jeannette) Manning, Stephanie (Andy) Schell, Zach (Amy) Butala, Derek McCreary, Cassidy Green, Sky, Page and Royal Green, and seven great grandchildren, Konnar, Kalvan, and Myah Manning, Madison and Mia Schell, Ashton Kurtz and Ella Butala.

A Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30th at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 120 West Riggs Street, East Helena with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall of the Church.
