Obituary for Florence T. Davis
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florence T. Davis on August 12, 2010, at the age of 97.
Florence was born in Ogden, Utah on April 25, 1913 to Henry Topping, Sr. and Helen McClure Drysdale.
She married Douglas D. Davis on June 18, 1939 in Salt Lake City. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2009. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2010.
Florence graduated from the Smithsonian Business College in Ogden, Utah. Following graduation, she worked for the U.S. Bureau of Animal Industry in Salt Lake City for seven years. After her children were grown, she worked part-time for the Montana Crop and Livestock Reporting Service in Helena.
When Florence was younger, she loved taking care of their home and caring for her beautiful flowers. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing favorite meals for her family. For many years, she and Douglas loved their daily car rides and Florence enjoyed the many trips she made with her two daughters. She loved reading and walking. She also started participating in the Montana Governor’s Cup and Race for the Cure at the age of 90. In 2003 and 2004, she won medals for first place finish in the 5k for her age division. She also enjoyed attending Grandstreet Theater with her best friend, Marjorie Trainor.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Mary Lou; and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, David (Susan) Davis, Luella (Marv) Bennett, and Colleen (Scott) Lindsay, all of Helena. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Morgan, Mike and Nick Davis, Leslie (Ben) Kennedy, Kristin (Shawn) Bennett-O’Brien and Brendan and Kelsey Lindsay.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Waterford and Hospice of St. Peter’s for the loving care they provided for both Douglas and Florence.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Forestvale Cemetery. Dedication of the grave will be by Marvin Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grandsteet Theater, 325 N. Park Avenue, Helena, MT 59601.
