Frank G. Miller of Helena passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012. He most recently resided at Rosetta Assisted Living Facility in Helena, MT.
He was born January 23, 1925 to Frank and Verna (Keller) Miller. He was the fourth of nine children. Frank grew up in the “6th Ward area”. He lived in Helena his entire life. He graduated from St. Mary’s grade school and Helena High School. He and his siblings were one of the families that attended school in railroad cars when Helena was hit with the 1935 earthquake.
Frank was a Navy WWII veteran serving from September, 1943 to May, 1946. When he was discharged from the service, he went to work for ASARCO in East Helena. He then went to work for the State of Montana, Highway Department Core Drill Section and was employed there until his retirement in 1986.
In October, 1948, he married Florella Marie Mitzel. She preceded him in death on September 16, 1974. They had two children, Charles Roy Miller and Karla Rose Lund-Elder. On November 5, 1977, he married Margaret Nason, who was the love of his life. Together they traveled to many wonderful places and also took several cruises. He referred to Margaret as the most wonderful woman in the world.
Frank loved the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many years hunting up White’s Gulch and fishing below Canyon Ferry Dam. Margaret always made him the best lunches (even peeling his hard boiled eggs for him!); he was the envy of the other hunters! He also enjoyed cutting trees for firewood, bringing them home, chopping, splitting, and stacking the wood. He always had a roaring fire in the wood stove. He loved to garden and took great pride in maintaining their yard in Seaver Park; it was always immaculate. Frank always had a story or joke to tell.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, children Roy (Vickie), Everett, WA.; Karla Lund-Elder (Scott) of Miles City, MT; James “Nick” Nason, of Helena, MT, Carol (Jerry) Lemieux of Missoula, MT; Richard (Debbie) Nason of Missoula.
