In Memory Of

G.W. “Bud” Sahr Jr., age 87 of Helena

November 8, 1926 – November 12, 2013

Gabriel William “Bud” Sahr, Jr passed away peacefully of natural causes the morning of Nov. 12, 2013 in Helena, Montana.   His daughters Gail and Phyllis were exchanging stories on the phone as he passed away.

Bud was happy and content; He enjoyed the company of his grandson Rex and his family for a few days before he passed.  Bud had traveled as recently as Oct 11 to Bonney Lake and Yelm, Washington to visit with grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Bud was born in Healdsburg, CA on Nov 8, 1926 to, Gabriel William “Bill” and Ruella Sahr. They resided in Geyserville and eventually moved to a ranch at 6285 Old Redwood Hwy in Windsor. At the age of 9 years old “Buddy” dumped the first box of grapes to be crushed at the Windsor Vineyard (1935). The vineyard is now known as the Rodney Strong Vineyard. Bud talked about raising chickens when he was in school and eventually became a highly sought after farmer in Sonoma County, leasing orchards, vineyards and hayfields. He also ran a trucking business, hauling alfalfa hay from the Sacramento Valley for the dairy farmers in Northern California, as well as lumber and fertilizer.  Later in life Bud was a land developer.

Bud moved to Helena Mt. at the age of 65.  He was known for his large repertoire of colorful stories about the earlier days in Sonoma County. Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. In the winter they traveled south to warmer temperatures with friends. He was president of the Good Sam Club in Helena and was known for having the house on Green Meadow with the hedge of yellow flowers. Bud always had a great garden with lots of veggies and a garlic patch. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Bud is survived by his children; Gail Blackford (GA) Phyllis Tintinger (MT) Jackie Heinzle OR Janet Lashbrooke (NM) Evelyn Cornelssen (CA) Stuart Dorsey (CA) Chris Dorsi (MT).  Also survived by grandchildren; Darci Plass, Wayne Plass, Stephanie Ruiz:  Rex Orcutt, Laniea Hutchinson: Will Heinzle James Heinzle: Lauren Bechen, Andrew Lashbrooke: Sam Dorsi and Max Dorsi and Ten great grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way so eleven great grandchildren.

Gone but never forgotten. Bud, you were truly one of a kind! If there’s a heaven and you are there, I know you are planting a big garden right now. Just think- you’ll never have to worry about frost again! Love, Evie

Dad you had to be the greatest fisherman I ever new. You could catchem with a naked hook. I remember telling you about the one that got away, and your answer was, “you want me to come and catch him for you”. Well you did finally, and that was great.
    Love ya
    Gail
