My condolences to your family. I remember long ago when Gary was the Patrol Inspector. I was stationed in Malta ( 23 years old and only 1 year on ) I was eating lunch at the Hitchin Post when he walked in to do an inspection. I thought my goose was cooked because I didn’t have my hat with me. At the time that was big fauxpas on the Patrol . He said , see you don’t have your hat , guess its too windy out today for it – then he laughed. Most recently , at Beer Night ( as Cal calls it ) , when we all meet after work , Gary would always ask – how’s the pass , any snow on it ? I commute over the divide every day. Didn’t matter if it was 50 degrees – funny .. Will miss his Beer Night presence , where we all took turns teasing each other ……

Sandy and family, I’m so sorry to hear about Gary’s passing. I have wonderful memories of those Highway Patrol BBQs and parties at our house out on Spring Street. Gary was one of my favorites; all that energy and silly smile. I hope he’s met up with my dad and John Heath. Maybe they have a cribbage game going and are telling stories right now. Sending my prayers for you during this sad time. God Bless. Karleen Hanson

I first met Gary when he was delivering milk to my parents at Canyon ferry Lake. We kept in touch and I bought a jeep from Gary and I remember that the driver’s seat had a small tear in in from his pistol! I wish that I could have seen him one more time! God bless.
