September 28, 1952 – November 15, 2019

George William Franks, 67 years old, died on November 15, 2019, of natural causes at 4 a.m. while being attended to by the loving staff at BeeHive Assisted Living Home in Helena, Montana.

George was born on September 28, 1952, in Waialua, a town on Oahu’s North Shore. George will be returning home to Hawaii for his final resting place.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Virginia Franks. George was born into a family of eight children. He was preceded in death by two older sisters: Mary Holmberg (Richard) and Patricia Santos (David).

He is survived by his brother Anthony Franks (Diana) and his sisters Veronica Witt (Monty), Monica Des Jarlais, Regina Sano (Keith) and Bernadette Franks-Ongoy (Ben). He is survived by 12 nieces and nephews,15 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces. He especially loved the little children and was always eager to see them at family gatherings.   George lived in Helena for 16 years. He loved bird watching and taking pictures of wildlife and family and friends. He spent much of his adult life being a community volunteer. George was a gentle, humble, prayerful person. He was a devoted Roman Catholic.

Before coming to Helena, George was very active in Hawaii’s Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, and was an associate of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He received many awards for his participation in those service organizations. He loved to play card games with his family, especially the card game “trumps”, and everyone was eager to have him as a partner. He loved football and baseball. He spent countless hours taking pictures of birds and sold some of the beautiful pictures at the Farmer’s Market every summer in Helena.

The family is very appreciative of all of those who have cared for and supported George throughout the years in Helena’s community including the staff of Eagle Manor and Hunter’s Pointe. We are grateful to the staff and providers of St. Peter’s Health and especially grateful to the kind and loving staff at BeeHive Homes in Helena, who cared for George like family.

A memorial celebrating George’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 2 p.m. at BeeHive Homes of Helena, 9 Bumblebee Ct., Helena, Montana. George’s funeral and final resting place will be in Hawaii on December 13, 2019.
