Gerald A. “Jerry” Scheet of East Helena, who worked at the cement plant in Montana City for more than 30 years, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 in Helena. He was 74.
Jerry was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Rugby, N.D., one of three children for Tony and Tena Scheet. The family moved to East Helena in the summer of 1947 when Jerry was 7 years old.
Jerry was educated at St. Ann’s Catholic School in East Helena and then attended Helena High School, where he was a member of the first class to graduate from the new school in 1958.
Jerry and Ethel Fleury were married Sept. 13, 1958 at the Cathedral of St. Helena. They had three children: Brad, Barb and Breck.
Jerry worked at Safeway for nine years before joining staff of the cement plant. He worked as purchasing agent and warehouse supervisor until his retirement in 1996.
Jerry enjoyed working at the plant and his fellow employees there. He never was late and never missed a day for being sick during his 31 years at the plant.
He was very proud of his role as father in helping to raise three fine children and of his ability to get along with everybody from co-workers and business associates to friends and family.
Jerry was a modest man who always was willing to help others. He enjoyed Carroll College football games, riding his all-terrain vehicle, reading and working around the beautiful house he and Ethel shared. He considered himself “just a regular person who went through life not wanting to hurt anybody.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Janet. Survivors include his widow, Ethel; sons Brad (Teri Steel) of Vancouver, Wash. and Breck (Nikki) of East Helena; daughter Barb (Bob) Anez of Helena; sister Geraldine (Mike) Myrhow of Winnemucca, Nev.; granddaughters Sierra, Alyssa and Mikayla Scheet of East Helena; and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry’s family want to thank the kind and compassionate staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and the Hospice of St. Peter’s for their care and support.

Ethel and Family,
We want to send our deepest sympathy for the loss of Jerry. You and Jerry have been the greatest neighbors that anyone could ask for. He was always there to watch over the place when we were gone, collecting the daily paper, returning the trash can, bringing a cold coke on a hot summer day and chatting with and just being there. May our prayers be with you for comfort. And we are here any time you need us. God Bless and God be with you all at this most difficult time. Words cannot express our memories and sorrow.
