In Memory Of

Glenda Pennington, Age 71, of Helena

September 30, 1941 – February 20, 2013

Glenda Mock Pennington, 71, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.

Glenda was born to Virginia and Robert Mock on September 30, 1941 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.  In her early childhood her family moved to Helena, Montana where she later graduated from Helena High School in 1959.  On December 5, 1964, Glenda married her life partner Robert S. Pennington and together they raised three children; Bobby, Jim and Heather.

Glenda began her career as a legal secretary in many small law offices in the Helena area.  This eventually led her to her paralegal career with the United States Attorney’s Office, where she retired after many years of service.

In addition to her successful career, she was involved in many social activities.  Much of her time was dedicated to her membership in Toastmaster where she enjoyed the company of others and became a skilled public speaker.  Glenda was also a lifelong involved member of the First Presbyterian Church.  Here she developed many close friendships.  She had a love for travel and in her later years traveled with her sister, Paula, to a new location in the United States each year.  Learning was a passion for Glenda and she often took adult learning classes in art, writing, and photography to satisfy her creative nature.  Her favorite activities were meeting her friends for lunch or movie nights.

Glenda’s motto was “the more the merrier” and this attitude certainly showed in the activity of the Pennington home.  She and her husband, Bob, became known as parental figures for many of their children’s friends and their home was the hub of the neighborhood.  As a result many memories were created and many lives were influenced in a positive way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her parents, Virginia and Robert Mock.

Glenda is survived by her children Bobby and Jim Pennington, Heather (James) Waters; grandchildren Karol Anne (Ryan) Davis, Ashley, Tori, Byron, Angelique, Brian Pennington and Clayton Voeller; great grandchild to be Andrew Davis.  She is also survived by her sister Paula Genetzky along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to Hospice, Dr. LaClair and Dr. Kellogg for their outstanding care and compassion.

A memorial service celebrating Glenda’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 535 N. Ewing St., Helena. Burial will take place at Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison following the memorial service.  A reception will follow the burial at the American Legion 3095 Villard Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Glenda’s name may be sent to Hospice of St. Peter’s Hospital c/o St. Peter’s Hospital, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601.Please visit www.aswfuneralhome.com to offer the family condolences or share a memory of Glenda.

We just heard the very sad news of Glenda’s passing. We send you all our sincere sympathy. Glenda was always so much fun, had that twinkle in her eye and warmth for everyone she encountered. She truly lived her faith, heaven is a richer place today now that she’s home!

Glenda was both my mentor and my friend in Toastmasters. The twinkle in her eye, the smile, and the ready compliment were always there and always appreciated. Even when I got into trouble with her grandsons (which I caused) at a Toastmasters speech contest, the reprimand was given with the twinkle and the smile. Her laugh and kindness will truly be missed. The gates of Heaven must have been lined with an Honor Guard of Angels when she went home. I miss you friend.

I’m so upset, and so sorry. I just got back to Helena and was looking forward to some time together with my dear friend. But how can I be sad when she is with her Bob and no longer needing to bear physical traumas. We have been friends since we were 10 and lived across the street fron each other on Davis. She seemed to always be in good spirits, and enjoyed her family, friends and faith to the fullest. I will miss you so much, Glenda, and thank you for being my friend.

I am so sorry to read about Glenda’s passing. I knew Glenda for quite a few years. I would see her in the hallway when she worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. I worked in the same building and same floor (U.S. Courthouse). Glenda was such a neat and gracious lady. She always seemed to have a twinkle in her eyes and aways smiling. She was such a wonderful person and I will miss her. Please accept my condolences and know you are in my thoughts at this sad time.

I am sorry for your loss. May you rely on the God of all comfort during this dificult time. (1Corinthians 1:3,4) May you also find encouragement and hope in his promise of the resurrection (Isaiah 26:19 and Acts 24:15) We can trust this promise because it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18)

Glenda was a beautiful lady. I had the privilege of getting to know her years ago while car pooling to Boulder for night classes through Western. She was a treat in class and always entertaining. Glenda had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bobby, Jimbo, Heather, sister Paula, and the Pennington family. My deepest sympathy goes out to you. Your mom was such a good friend and I will miss her so much. My comfort comes from knowing she is with Bob, and I believe they are dancing in Heaven, free of all pain.

I remember Glenda as a kind and generous person. She was helpful to me in a number of ways when I was coping with the legal system. As a high school classmate, she kept current on lots of the kids that walked the halls of HHS. We will miss you, Glenda. Rest well.

Glenda was my first point of contact with Toastmasters. She was pleasant, patient, and quite willing to share her time answering questions and explaining. Glenda was a good listener and liked to keep the time shared fun and enjoyable. In one of our meetings…..we told a progressive story. Someone started out the story with a couple of sentences, the next person added on, etc. By the end of the story, everyone in attendance at the meeting was in a pink swimsuit, in a hot tub, in the snow (falling), and drinking tequila. The hot tub was in Glenda’s back-yard in the story. Somehow, I think that would have been all right with her in real life! Great lady that will be missed by many.

The more the merrier, indeed. Chaos reigned whenever I was at her house, and it just seemed to go right by her. Drove me nuts. Never saw her lose her cool until I said something about her red car not being very matronly. She was NOT happy. Woe be unto you if you insinuated she was old. Rest in peace, dear friend. We will miss you at our dinner get togethers.
