In Memory Of

Glenna Raty Buck, age 88 of Helena

March 29, 1924 – November 22, 2012

Glenna Raty Buck

Glenna Raty Buck, 88 , passed away on November 22 (Thanksgiving Day) from natural causes in Clancy, MT at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.  They were both by her side the very moment she left for her special place in that Cathedral in The Sky.  During her stay in Clancy, Glenna had many visitors and phone calls.  They all had the very same thing to say… “What an honor and a blessing it is to know and love Glenna.  She is the truest of friends.”

Glenna was born in Challis, Idaho on March 29, 1924. From then on she was raised by her father, Sim V. Raty who work as a foreman on many different ranches finally ending up here in Montana Doing the very same thing; cattle ranching.  Glenna was his favorite cowhand as she was his only child and learned to ride and rope at a very early age.  You could say she was born on a horse.  Her love for her father and her horses lasted forever more.

Glenna moved to Great Falls to work at the livestock yards where she met Walter (Windy) Vukasin.  They were married in 1944 and had their only child, Randy, in 1949.  Their favorite past time was to travel the different rodeos throughout the state attending almost every one.  They later divorced in 1967.  Glenna then chose to move back to the Helena area where she could be closer to her dad.  They were able to spend lots of “saddle time” and “horse talk” together until Sim passed on October 16, 1976.

Prior to her dad’s passing, she met the true love of her life, Dan Buck, a local Brand Inspector, businessman, horseman and very talented saddle maker.  They married and lived at the “C-2 Ranch” (C Deuce) near East Helena.  While there Dan hand made a special fit saddle just for Glenna and her horse Timmy.  The saddle fit them both like a glove and it turned out to be one of her greatest treasures.  They were happily married until Dan’s passing in February of 1969.

Glenna also had a wonderful talent for sewing and could make anything from just a scrap of cloth.  This talent landed her a job at Rogenes Dress Shop here in Helena.  There she worked as a seamstress until their closing.  She then moved on to Hennesy’s where she finished her career and retired.  Glenna also enjoyed sewing while at the C-2.  Her favorite creations there were two Native American “Jingle Dresses” she made by hand.  Also while at the C-2, she became very fond of cats and would never turn away any stray!  She always labeled each and every one of them with the most fitting name.

After suffering a stroke last year, she left the C-2 for a little “r & r” at Elkhorn Health & Rehab. Once finished with that, she moved to an independent living facility for a while.  Her final journey, in this world, brought her to her son’s home where, from her window, she enjoyed what she called “the perfect view of Sheep Mountain, one of God’s greatest creations,” the forest and a very special friend, Chinook the horse.

She also enjoyed hours and hours watching old westerns on TV.  Her favorite actor was George Montgomery with her favorite shows being Cimarron City, Bonanza, Wagon Train and Rawhide.  She also watched her fair share of M.A.S.H. and the Andy Griffith Show.  Another special treat Mom Buck enjoyed was sipping on her evening “hot toddy” while listening to songs by western singer Jim Reeves.  Her favorite was titled “My Cathedral” and together we played it many, many times, especially when friends came for a visit.

Thanksgiving Day brought special cards, calls and visits from all that loved here.  Grandson Craig read from The Good Book with Grandson Tony sharing a beverage and talking about the good ol’ days with her dad, horseback riding, her cats, cowboy poetry and ranching.

Glenna is survived by her son Randy Vukasin (Cheryl), grandson Tony Vukasin (Sheri), grandson Craig Vukasin (Kasie-Rae) and two great grandsons, John and James Vukasin, all of Helena.

Glenna wished to thank the people of Rocky Mountain Hospice and Elkhorn Health & Rehab for caring so very much.  They just loved her. Actually, Glenna was loved by all that met her.

Cremation has taken place with the family celebrating her life next spring during her favorite time of year.  In lieu of memorials, please feel free to make a donation to your local animal shelter or humane society.  To offer a condolence or share a memory of Glenna, please visit below.

    Ma Ma Buck,
From the moment I met you thirteen years ago I knew we would have a very special bond. You have taught me so much and it has been such an honor and privledge to be a part of your life!
My Mom’s hand was a mirror’s image of mine. When we touched palm to palm they were an exact match and at the same time we would say “Twinsies”…
I have loved you completely and you will live in my heart forever!
    Love Cher
