Golda Anna Marie ‘Annie’ Howard McLane of Townsend passed away October 20, 2024.
Golda Anna Marie Howard was born September 4, 1939, in Coeur d’Alene, ID to Leroy and Lucy (Watts) Howard. At the age of 4, she lost her dad and she and her mom moved around to ID, OR, and MT before finally settling in Helena, MT.
In the summer of 1958, Annie and her future husband, Chuck McLane, were set up on a blind date by their friends Bill and Jan and Wally and Linda. Later they met again, twice, and from then on it was love. They got married on April 4, 1959, and welcomed their first daughter, Terri, in February. Ric and Roy followed and then Lisa.
Annie was a stay-at-home mom, taking the best care of her family, along with a handful of babysitting kids, including Jeff Petek, who she loved dearly. In 1975, she went back to school and then entered the workforce, starting at Coast to Coast, Avon Sales Representative, and then on to work at the MTARNG Credit Union as a Loan Officer and Bookkeeper until her retirement in 1991.
After retirement she picked up her crochet hooks and made Afghans for all of us, including baby Afghans for our friends. Annie enjoyed playing Pinochle or cribbage with the folks, Canasta with the kids, and Phase 10, Uno, Go Fish, and Old Maid with her grandkids. She thoroughly enjoyed trips to Alaska and having her family all together for the Holidays, so long as she didn’t have to do the cooking but would definitely supervise.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents; a baby girl; a granddaughter Melanie Lukenbill; a grandson Caleb McLaren; great granddaughter Madison Lukenbill; brothers in law and sisters in law; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Annie is survived by her husband of 65 years Chuck McLane; children Terri (Art) McLaren, Rich (Rhonda) McLane, Roy McLane, and Lisa McLane, and former son in law David Lukenbill; grandchildren Levi (Cassie), Tanner, Whitney (Erica), Chance (Stephanie McLaren and Sierra Collins, Zach (Jessica), Joey, Sam, Alex, Ben (Savannah) Lukenbill; Sheraya (Dan) Farnsworth, Napoleon Clayton, and J.J. (Autumn) Clayton; Great grandchildren Lexi, Logan, Lincoln, Alex, Sawyer, Aurelia, Jude, Jameson, and Ellisyn; and special friends Scott Eckhardt and Helen Turcotte.
A Memorial Service will be planned for the Spring when the weather is perfect, and the sky is blue. Please visit www.aswfuneralhome.com to offer a condolence to the family or to share a memory of Annie.
‘A Fallen Limb’
A limb has fallen
from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says,
“Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times,
The laughter, the song.
The good life I lived
While I was strong.
Continue my heritage,
I’m counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely
The sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease,
My soul is at rest.
Remembering all,
How I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions,
No matter how small.
Go on with your life,
Don’t worry about falls
I miss you all dearly,
So keep up your chin.
Until the day comes
We’re together again.”
