Heaven has received another angel; Goldie Margaret Sullivan was welcomed home with open arms by Our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the age of 89. She died of natural causes at Cooney Convalescent Home in Helena, Montana surrounded by loved ones.
Goldie was born Sunday, January 27, 1924 in Helena to Paul and Martha (Crowley) Smith. She was the oldest of four children. They were raised in Lincoln, Montana where she attended elementary school and later moved to Helena to attend Helena High School, while maintaining her home in Lincoln. On July 13, 1943 she married her first love Ralph Morris Sandon in Missoula and with their union they created three beautiful children, who always made their mother proud. They lived in Ronan, Montana until the death of Ralph on June 2, 1951, at which time they moved to Helena to be closer to family.
Goldie worked for Western Life Insurance upon moving to Helena until 1959 when she married the love of her life, Bob Sullivan. They were wed June 16, 1959 in Butte, Montana. Goldie and her children moved to Townsend to the ranch where they lived until 1973 when they sold the ranch and moved to Gruber Estates in Clancy, Montana, during which time she and Bob worked for the Department of Revenue.
Following the death of Bob on April 29, 2001 in Sequim, Washington, Goldie moved to the Waterford/Touchmark in Helena. As her Alzheimer’s disease progressed, she was moved to Townsend initially to TLC and later to Broadwater Health Center. Her final days were spent at Cooney Convalescent Home in Helena.
Some of Goldie’s many activities included Broadwater Cattlewomen and Canton Valley Women’s Club; where she was instrumental in raising the funds necessary for the building of the Townsend City Pool as well as the support for the need of the development of the Dike System at the South end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir. She enjoyed music and painting. Goldie loved to play the piano and organ as well as sing. Her paintings can be found displayed in the many homes of family members and friends.
Goldie was very active in the Catholic Church, both Holy cross Parish in Townsend and later St. Cyril and Methodius in East Helena, Montana. Bob and Goldie had a passion for helping others in the church from the many prayer groups they led and participated in including Power of the Word, to her years served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Martha Smith, younger brother Gordon Smith, and both her first husband Ralph Sandon, and then Bob Sullivan her love of 42 years. She is survived by her daughter Elaine (Bob) Graveley of Townsend, sons Charles (Kate) Sullivan of Sequim, Washington and Bruce (Janeen) Sullivan of Kennewick, Washington. Elaine and family—-so terribly sorry for your loss. It is so difficult to lose a loved member of our family. Prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. I probably won’t be able to make the service as I will be out of town but I will try to see you shortly upon my return to town. Just know your mom was truly loved by many and that she is now one of God’s angels!
Lee (Lau) Connolly says
