Harold (Red) Norman Grovom, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, friend and master to Cali and Chico (loved dogs), passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, December 12, 2010. He had just declared that evening how he was feeling great and working out and walking 2 miles a day.
Harold was born May 30, 1934 in Homestead, Montana to Walter and Lola (Brenden) Grovom. He married his childhood sweetheart Bernie Krogedal October 2, 1954 in Miles City.
As a determined hard worker, Harold started a construction company with a close friend and did anything anyone needed from Williston to Sidney to Helena. At the same time, he engaged in his second love, flying. He received his pilot’s license and helped build a light airplane and pursued his love of flying much to the delight of four small daredevils!
Harold and Bernie traveled the world and enjoyed visiting Troy and Rachel at Flathead and Laureen and Paul at the North Carolina coast yearly. He was blessed to have Steve and Joni, Jeff and his children and Ronnie and Susan from Helena visiting daily.
Harold was preceded by his parents, Walter and Lola (Brenden) Grovom; sisters, Shirley Shumake, Winifred Long and Jean Glover.
Harold is survived by his wife, Bernie; children, Laureen (Paul) Dordal of Fayetteville, NC, Steve (Joni) Grovom, Jeff Grovom all of Helena and Troy (Rachel) Grovom of Polson; brother, Ronnie (Susan) Grovom of Helena; grandchildren, Nathan (Kallee), Lindsey and Salliann (Matthew). Harold is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Sharon Krogedal and Linda Lien; brother-in-law, Gordon Krogedal and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 17th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. A reception celebrating his life will be at Fox Ridge Golf Course immediately following the memorial service. Memorials in Harold’s name are suggested to the Lewis & Clark Humane Society P.O. Box 4455 Helena, Montana 59604. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.aswfuneralhome.com.

Harold was my dad’s best friend, and was like a second dad to me. He and Bernie have always been good to me, and I am saddened by the loss of such a good man. My heart goes out to his family, all of who are extremely dear to me. Something I’ll never forget is when Harold and Bernie called me to see how I was doing, upon learning of an ailment I had been diagnosed with. Harold truly cared for all those around him, he’ll surely be missed.
My dad has his best friend with him now, and they are both watching over all of us…between games of 8-ball on a billiard table made of gold…

Dear ones, our hearts are heavy for you.
It is at times like this we find ourselves at a loss for words that may bring comfort to a grieving soul. Perhaps this is why our Lord gave us His Holy Book that contains so many promises that we can claim for our own and know that He is near and He is in charge and if we love and trust Him, we can live with Him forever and be surrounded by His perfect love.
Our prayer is for His comforting hands to envelope you and your family during this trying time. May His love bring you peace and the knowledge that we will all be together again one day, give you calm and reassurance that His ways are true.
All our best to you and your family.
Ron Iverson says
Bernie and family. I am supposed to know what to say at times like this, but I never do. I do know we have lost a wonderful man. Whenever I talked to Harold he always had a genuine smile on his face, and always had the time to chat a little bit and we always got up to date on each others’ lives. He was a mild-mannered man which fit him so well. Count my sympathies among the many who will feel the same way. Ron

Dear Bernie and family,
Please know that you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.
What a testimony that overflowing crowd at the funeral was to how Harold and your family have touched the lives of so many people. Harold truly was “bigger than life” in so many ways.
Bernie, I want to tell you how important you have been to me through your long and faithful service to our optometric office through those many years. You were an invaluable and irreplaceable employee.
Unfortunately there is no shortcut to working through the grief we feel at the loss of a loved one. It is our prayer that you will receive from God peace and comfort in these weeks and months ahead.
We will be holding you up in prayer.
All our love,
Tom and Karene
