In Memory Of

Heidi Joie Sanderson, age 84, of Helena

November 30, 1940 – September 8, 2025

Heidi passed away on the morning of September 8, 2025, comfortably at the Helena Edgewood Memory Care at the age of 84.

She was the first born to Donald Mike Clark and Pauline Hadzor Nelson on November 30,1940 in Ennis, MT. Heidi graduated from Ennis High School in 1958. She married Lynn Gorsage on December 21, 1958. They had two children: Candy Lynn and Michael Clyde. They lived in Ennis until 1972 and then moved the family to Helena. Lynn and Heidi separated in1974.

Heidi met Gary Sanderson and they married in 1983. They lived in Colstrip and Missoula before settling in Helena in 1990. The two of them worked to keep their yard tidy and full of flowers. They enjoyed taking cruises together, especially to Alaska, and loved to spoil their dogs.  Heidi loved dogs and generally had more than one at a time. Sadly, Gary passed away from cancer in April 2015. They were married for 32 years.

Heidi’s long-time employment was with Leslie’s Hallmark. She loved to work with people and made many friends. Heidi was a tenacious and social person. Her battle with dementia was met with every ounce of resistance she could muster.  While at Edgewood she became a rock star, dawning her sunglasses daily. The staff nicknamed her “Hollywood”. She teased and joked with the staff, and they returned the same.

Heidi met Carl Nordberg at a travel club meeting. They became friends and enjoyed traveling together for a short time.  Carl brought happiness to memory care by bringing Heidi’s dog Sparky for visits.

Heidi’s family is grateful for the care she received from Edgewood Memory Care.  Edgewood was Heidi’s home for three years and the caring staff became part of her family.  For the last 18 months the staff of Enhabit (Hospice) have managed her dementia alongside the memory care staff. Caregivers are truly a gift from above. We thank you all.

Heidi was preceded in death her spouse Gary Sanderson, her parents (Mike and Pauline Clark) and a baby sister (Candy Clark).

She is survived by her daughter Candy Cannon (Rich), Mike Gorsage (Mary), twin brothers Gayle Clark (Danette) and Gary Clark (Bennie); Granddaughter Lynn McNeil (Joe Morley), Grandson Corey Gorsage and Granddaughter Katey Gorsage (Haley Hicks). Three cousins, Lonnye Weidler, Wendy Kasun and Barbie Clark.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., September 26, 2025, in the Memorial Shelter at the Montana State Veteran Cemetery at FT. Harrison, Montana. Heidi will be united with Gary in the Columbarium Niche at the Cemetery. We ask you to contribute to an Alzheimer support organization of your choice.
