Carolyn Jeanette Hewitt, age 92 of Helena, MT passed away peacefully on August 14, 2021 at Cooney Convalescent Home with family by her side.
Carolyn was born on June 7, 1929, to Emil and Daisy Newman in Kenosha, WI. She grew up in Kenosha where she went to school and enjoyed spending time with her little sister and many cousins. After graduating High School Carolyn went to school to become an Opera Singer. That is when Carolyn met her 1st husband, Charles Sterrett and moved to Butte, MT. They had two children, Debbie and Dale. Charles passed away in 1969. Carolyn then married the lover of her life, LeRoy Hewitt on December 20, 1969. They had one daughter, Stacey. Roy preceded her in death on November 26, 2000.
Carolyn was a CNA at Warm Springs, Warm Springs, MT where her, Chuck and Roy all worked together. Then Carolyn worked at Galen State Hospital, Warm Springs, MT, until she retired in 1990. Even after retiring Carolyn continued to always help anyone she could. Carolyn and Roy moved to Helena, MT in 1991. There they would go out and host BINGO at the V.A. Hospital every other Saturday for over 5 years. Carolyn was a member of the Moose Lodge and was also a Senior Companion for 10 years. She was also in the Sweet Adalines Choir, Helena, MT and Christian Womens, Deer Lodge, MT.
Carolyn enjoyed BINGO, gardening, and spending time with her family, but especially her grandchildren. Carolyn was all about her faith and her music. Carolyn played the piano and sang her entire life. She still played the piano until her passing. When she stopped playing the piano, she was ready.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Debbie (Terry) Hult of Columbia Falls, MT, Dale (Sharon) Sterrett of Great Falls, MT, and Stacey (Kevin) Spurlock of Helena, MT; grandchildren, David Rigby, Shawna Powers Butterfield, Bailey Spurlock, Conley Spurlock, and Kimmy Thomas; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both her loving husbands, parents, her sister and cousins.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Cooney Convalescent Home and St. Peter’s Hospice. We would also like to thank Dr. Heather McRee and her nurse Karen for their patience and amazing care for my mother over the last 20 years.
