Ida E. Gregory, age 96, of Helena passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Ida was born March 17, 1918 to Elizabeth M. Kracher and Paul Benjamin Hartz in Helena, MT.
She attended the St. Mary’s Grade School and High School at St. Vincent’s Academy for girls.
After finishing school Ida met Louis P. “Hap” Gregory and they were married on October 26, 1940.
Ida started working for Mountain Bell February 3, 1936 until April 3, 1983 over 47 years of service. She was a Data Processing Supervisor and State Treasurer for Mountain Bell Telephone and Telegraph.
Mom liked sewing and baking. Our favorite was her chocolate chip cookies. We grew up having pets. Mom enjoyed the company of her little dogs. She grew up playing the piano. She had been a member of Telephone Pioneers since 1957. She was Vice President of Telephone Skyline Chapter 1964-1966 and Secretary-Treasurer 1971-1982. She was in the Telephone Choir and Pioneer Family Campers. She was the organist for St. Mary’s Catholic Church until the new church was built and was also a member of Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers.
Ida is survived by daughter Patricia L. (Daniel) Maness and son James “Jim” P. Gregory. Grandsons; Ronald E. Smith, Kelly L. Smith (Rebecca) and Benjamin J. Gregory; Granddaughter; Valerie L. Smith; great-granddaughter Katlynn E. Smith.
She is preceded in death by husband Louis “Hap” Gregory, parents Paul B. and Elizabeth M. Hartz.
A viewing will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30th at Saint Mary Catholic Community, 1700 Missoula Ave., Helena, with a rosary being held at 4:40pm and a vigil starting at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 30th at Saint Mary Catholic Community. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:10 p.m., Monday, March 31st, at Saint Mary Catholic Community, 1700 Missoula Ave, Helena, with the burial immediately following Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, 3700 N. Montana Ave, Helena. A reception will follow the burial back at Saint Mary Catholic Community.

Ida was a wonderful grandmother to our son Benjamin. What more could you want – she spoiled him and loved him. She was also very good to me. I will miss the sparkle in her eyes.
