Ida Mae Holmquist passed away at Big Sky Healthcare Center Dec. 5, 2014. She had suffered for many years from dementia. She was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Zimmerman, Minn., to Guy and Olive Babcock. Ida was the youngest of four siblings. On May 16, 1945, Ida married Vincent Holmquist, who passed away Jan. 15, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, her youngest son, Douglas Holmquist, her parents and three siblings.
Ida Mae is survived by her son, Marvin of Clancy, daughter Cheryl (James) Lay, of Helena, three grand-daughters, two grandsons, six great-granddaughters, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Young Ida Mae worked at the Odd Fellows Home in Minn. with both the elderly and the children. Her work day started at 6 a.m. and ended after the supper dishes were put away. During World War II she was among those known as “Rosy the Riveter”. She worked for North West Airlines in Minneapolis. Due to her small stature, she was frequently assigned to work inside the engine cowling or on the wing tips. The family moved to Sidney, MT, in 1947 and to Helena in 1964.
Ida was a long time member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. She loved gardening especially her roses and other flowers. Ida was an avid bridge player. She loved cooking for her family and made the best pies, cinnamon rolls and cookies. During her younger years she did beautiful embroidery work.

Committal services will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Harrison at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014. Memorials may be given in Ida’s name to the Helena Plymouth Congregational Church or charity of your choice.
