Imogene “Jimmy” Barnes, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, January 21st, 2012. She was born on July 1st, 1918 in Great Falls, Montana to Alan A. and Rosa A. (Moody) Freseman. She was 93 years old.
Her childhood was spent in Malta, MT and Lewistown, MT. She graduated from Fergus County High School in 1936 and then graduated from Business College in Great Falls.
She married James “Art” Barnes on August 13, 1939 in Butte. They were together until Art’s death in 2002.
She worked at Woolworth’s and the Montana Historical Society in Helena, but her love and devotion was spending time with her family.
She accepted Jesus as her Savior and was very active in church and volunteer work. She attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Liberty Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for the YMCA and was an election official volunteer. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, camping, picnicking, and was very fond of her grandchildren.
“Jimmy” will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Jeff Barnes of Helena; grandchildren, Eric Barnes of Bozeman, Brian Barnes of Sumter, SC, Larry Gallagher of Butte, Lesley Gallagher-Tolon (Mike Tolon) of Helena, and Theresa (Harlan) Davis of Helena; great-grandchildren, Sean Gallagher-Tippin, Cassie Davis, Erin Davis, and Hannah Davis; as well as her son-in-law, Larry (Barbara) Gallagher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Art Barnes; daughter, Bonnie Gallagher; brothers, Lowel and Keith Freseman; and sisters, Pat Mitchell and Ava Smith.
The family will receive friends at 12:45 p.m. with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Avenue. A reception will be held in the social center of the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
