Irma Louis Chavet Paul was born in Beatrice, Nebraska to Walter and Helen Chavet. She spent her early childhood on a farm with her 2 brothers and 1 sister until the early 1940’s. Her family then moved to Puyallup, Washington.
Irma was working for Pacific Bell Telephone when she met George W. Paul. They wed June 28, 1947. Their life together was always an adventure. During the early years they lived in Richmond, CA, Minneapolis, MN, then moving to Fort Benton, MT. Irma worked for the County Superintendent of Schools then the State of Montana in Helena until she retired.
Much of Irma’s life was devoted to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Life Member where she held various positions from the Local level to State President then National Color Bearer. During her term as State President she had the honor of having tea in the White House with First Lady Pat Nixon.
Irma was a dedicated volunteer for 25 years at the VA Medical Center, Fort Harrison, MT. That is when she became instrumental in the development and building of “The Liberty House”. She then served as Chairwoman for many years. She and George loved to travel to all parts of the United States and abroad. Summers you would find them at the Gates of the Mountains boating or fishing. Most recently she lived in Oklahoma City, OK to be with her immediate family.
Her son, George Eugene Paul, her husband, George W. Paul, 2 brothers, Alan Chavet and Steve Chavet and her parents Walter and Helen Chavet, precedes her in death. Surviving are her daughter, Jody Biggers and son in law Lloyd Biggers, 2 grandsons, David Biggers, Tulsa, OK and Josh Biggers and his wife Tanya, Beulaville, NC. She has 3 great grandchildren, Bailey, Avery and Devlin. Her sister, Norma Graham resides in Tacoma, Washington. Her brother in law, Gordon Paul lives in San Luis Obispo, CA. Also still living in various parts of the country are nieces and nephews.
She loved unconditionally and we shall miss her sweet compassion she so freely gave.
November 25, 2015 God welcomed Irma with His loving arms into her final home.
A Graveside service will be at Fort Harrison, December 3 at 11:00 A.M. A reception will follow at the Fort Harrison Recreation Room at the VA Hospital. I knew Irma many years ago while working for the State Department of Revenue. I also would run into her when she was working at the East Helena VFW. Usually she was assisting or serving lunch after the parade on Veterans Day. I always enjoyed Irma and she was such a nice person. She had that sparkle in her eyes. Please accept my condolences and know my thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
