Jack Chester Hamlin arrived in his heavenly home on September 30, 2021. His family by his side.
Jack was born in Helena, Montana on November 26, 1950, to Harold and Marjorie (Pigman) Hamlin. He was the youngest of 4 children.
Jack attended Boulder Grade School and Jefferson High School where he graduated in 1970. He briefly attended the College of Great Falls on a basketball scholarship. Throughout his life, he thoroughly enjoyed coaching basketball and mentoring youth.
Jack lived life exuberantly, cared deeply for his family, his many friends, and his dogs. He was a very open and real person; a generous man with all he had. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of this ‘Papa’s’ life. He relished every sport they were involved in—motocross, volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, and actively participated with them.
Jack started in the construction trade as a young teenager and continued through the years. For the last 26 years, he has thrived running his real estate and house building business. The relationships he made in business were a highlight to him since he loved being around other people. Jack was a hard worker and enjoyed working up until the time of his death. He was part of Helena First Assembly for 47 years where he first discovered that God loved him.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, Harold and Margie Hamlin, his brother Larry Hamlin and sister Carol Morefield, his granddaughter Makiah Erlene Bartsch, mother and father-in-law Henry and Erlene Mercer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sandy Hamlin; brother and sister-in-law Jerry (Barb) Hamlin; children Nick Hamlin, Bridget (Jeremy) Bartsch – grandchildren, Ashley Hamlin, Nikki (Hunter) Meier, Kristi Hamlin, Casimir Bartsch, Jacob Bartsch, Morgan (Mat) Sauer – great grandchildren Hudson Endy, Hank Endy, Dawson Meier, Maxton Sauer, and Maci Sauer; Sisters’-in-laws Barbara Main and Jean (Tom) Seifert. There are also many other precious relatives and friends who survive him.

Sandy, Nick, and Bridgette,
You all are forever in our hearts. Jack was like a dad to me and my wife. I wish he could be here when our house he designed is finally complete, really wanted to share our excitement and joy with him. Oh man I don’t know what we all are going to do without you Mr. Jack. I always told you I felt at peace whenever we’re up at the construction site, I believe it will forever be peaceful and in remembrance of you. The last time you and I were together, was the day after labor day, up on the site tweeking things and making changes, you said to me ” this house looks so majestic” on top of the hill, looking up from the highway. I’m going to miss you so much. I am and will always be blessed for having you in my life. RIP

I truely am sorry and greatly saddened to hear the news of Jack’s passing. Take comfort in knowing we’ll all be re-United again one day and all the wonderful memories that have been made throughout your lives together.
I remember a really cold and drizzly time when Jack selflessly gave of his time and skills as a mason, as he helped Bub lay the foundation blocks on one of our homes we built out in Montana City many years ago. Then, later on in the scheme of things; Bub and Jack burning the candle at both ends diligently working together again. This time building an addition to the Lundy Center. They decided the hardware store, Jack’s Ace Hardware, needed more square footage and store front. This place later became Ben Franklins and is now another store, but the job was done well. The house and the store are still standing! I’m sure when we all reunite in Heaven one day we’ll find them busy with a major project up there! He was a great person, friend and Helena will be missing him for sure.
I hope all you Hamlin’s know, if you ever need anything , you can always call me.
Sincerely, Deb Ennis

I was so sorry to hear of Jack’s death. As my realtor when I sold a couple places and moved to town after the death of my husband, he was a tremendous help. As the property manager of my rental property he handled things well and totally reduced my stress level. Through all of this he also became a trusted friend. When I had a problem and needed to know who to call Jack gave me names of good people and added, “Tell them I told you to call.” Each of these became the people I knew were reliable and trustworthy. I appreciated that Jack was always available and would take time to talk to me. I will miss him.
