Jack Lacy Lowry, 81, passed away Monday, April 16th, 2018, at St. Peter’s Health after a brief illness. Jack was born June 30, 1936 in Quitman, Georgia, the 6th child of Henry and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Lowry.
His early childhood was spent in Georgia and at age 9, the extended family moved cross country to Bremerton, Washington. He attended school and graduated from Bremerton High in 1955. After graduation, he tried his hand at college but left after one quarter. The road next took him to beauty school after which he earned his operator’s license.
Jack always had an entrepreneurial spirit, from his first job selling kindling to washing windows to being a farmhand. He spent five years in the Army, earning his sharp-shooter badge and serving as camp cook. After being honorably discharged, Jack worked ten years for Boeing, when he met and married his first wife, Zanna Spurgin. Though they later divorced, they were blessed with two wonderful children, Roy and Jackie.
After moving to Montana, Jack settled in Great Falls and established three independent businesses. During this time, he met Judy Moe and the two were married in 1978. Shortly after, the couple moved to Helena where, in 1983, they established what eventually became Lowry Excavating & Pump.
Jack was devoted to his business and family and the two were his true passions. Rarely did a day pass where he wasn’t in the office or wrangling a deal from the kitchen table. He was generous to a fault and had a soft spot for those down on their luck. His ability to nap anywhere was legendary and he never met a war or history book he hadn’t read.
Preceding Jack in death were his grandparents, parents, and brothers Chuck and Hank, sisters Sara and Della. He is survived by his wife Judy, brother John, sister Mary, son Roy (Linda) Lowry, daughter Jackie (Casey) Furlong, stepdaughters Darcee (Troy Thompson) and Cyndee Moe, stepson Brad (Larisa) Moe, grandsons Steven (Dani), Sam, Roy Jr, and Fox Lowry, Brent, Thomas, and Zach (Kelsi) Furlong, Nick and Mason Moe, JD Mooney, and granddaughters Haylee Mooney and Madison Moe. Also surviving are his great grandchildren Aiden, Seveah, and Isabell Lowry and Roslyn Furlong, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Weiner and the wonderful Oncology nursing staff at St. Peter’s Health.

Jack did the work on all my excavation, my well, and my septic system. He also did work for my parents. Over the many years I feel we became good friends. He was always ready to chat with me about whatever subject I brought up. He was alway fair too.
He will be missed by me and many others whose lives he touched.
The community, and especially his family has lost a wonderful man. My condolences.

Condolences to all of Jack’s family and friends. I was one of the many people in the Helena community for whom Jack did a number of favors, and I hope that our information exchanges through the years were half as helpful to him as they were for me. I considered him to be a friend, and he was sometimes a confidant when I really needed to vent about something. Thank you, Jack. Rest in Peace, Amigo. ‘Til we meet again…

Judy,
Our prayers are with you and the children during this sorrowful time. John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
This is my hope for all the family we have lost. Resurrection Day will be a glorious reuniting!
