In Memory Of

James “Doc” Franklin Carson, Jr.

August 8, 1946 – May 5, 2012

James Franklin “Doc” Carson, Jr. left this earthly world on Saturday, May 5, 2012. He was born in St. Helens, Oregon on August 8, 1946 to James F. and Betty E. Carson.

Doc lived life by his own rules. He always had a job whether it was logging, mining, construction or driving a tow truck. He managed Uncle Pete’s Pawn Shop until it closed in February 2009. He proudly served in the US Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. Beginning in 2000, Doc became part of the Rodney Street Family, a group of amazing individuals who loved, cared and looked out for one another and were never afraid to set one another straight. Doc’s passions in life were motorcycles, cars and guns. He was never without a Harley to ride or a car to rebuild.

He is survived by his daughters, Brandi L. Carson of Helena and Amber Y. Carson of Woodburn, OR, two grandsons Christopher Mackey and Wyatt Carson of Woodburn, his partner Mary Pat Dutton and her daughter, Jessica Dutton of Portland, OR. He is also survived by his first wife, Valorie Dana, close friends, Dave and Debbie Elliott, Charlie Carson, Brent Brue and Myron Mackey and six stepdaughters and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jamie Carson, his sister Judy Carson and his late wife, Pat Carson.

Doc did not see “life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, a Rainer in his hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO what a ride.”

A funeral service will be held for Doc on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Retz Funeral Home Chapel. Military Honors will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison, Montana. A pot luck social and reception will be held at Jester’s Bar, 200 N. Rodney St., Helena, following military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at any local Valley Bank to help defray funeral costs. I miss you so much Daddy. I never knew it would be so hard to say goodbye. It has been so heartbreaking to lose you and then to not be acknowledged by people because they have no idea who I am and how special our relationship was. I’ve tried and tried to take the high road, Daddy – even when I wanted to scream, because I want you to be proud of me. I know you were proud of me, and I never want to do anything that would diminish that in your eyes. I love you Daddy!!
