Jim Delauter, of Clancy, Montana, passed away, Wednesday, November 9th, 2011. Jim died peacefully at his home, with family at his side, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma cancer.
Jim was born February 15, 1944, in Pontiac, MI, to James and Betty Delauter. After graduating from Waterford Township High School in 1962, Jim raised his two daughters and his son with his first wife, Sharon.
Jim lived a full life as a successful entrepreneur and passionate outdoorsman. While in Michigan, Jim ran a trucking business and later a landscaping business. After years of hunting in Idaho and Montana, Jim moved to Helena to open a Little Caesars Pizza/Big Cheese Pizza, which he ran for 20 years. He often spoke fondly of the many teenagers that he employed and those who frequented his establishment during their lunch break.
Jim balanced his life with his numerous passions, including hunting, snow mobiling, racing boats, and raising and training animals. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was known for his love of teasing, which will be truly missed. Every year, he looked forward to horse packing into the Bob Marshall wilderness area to hunt with his brother Bob and lifelong friend George Schick from MI.
On November 30th, 2010, Jim married his wife Patty at St Paul’s United Methodist church, after dating for many years. They enjoyed travelling around the country in their motor home. Jim continued to serve his community through his volunteer work with Jaycees and through his church.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and sister Joy of Michigan.
Jim was survived by his wife, Patty Smith Delauter; daughters, Julie (Ken) Delauter and Kathy Daigneaul of Michigan; son, Jimmy Delauter of Michigan; grandchildren, Rachel and Tyler; mother, Betty Delauter of Michigan; brother, Bob (Jeanette) Delauter of Post Falls, ID; and sister, Kim Taylor Delauter of Michigan; Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 13th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. During this time the family invites you to join them for pizza and refreshments at the funeral home. A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14th at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. An additional service will be held in Michigan at a later date.
Memorials in Jim’s name are suggested to the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Building Fund; 512 Logan Street Helena, Montana 59601. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.aswfuneralhome.com

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
We have many fond memories of Jim over the years. He was the pied piper of snowmobiling as we all followed him and he usually got us into trouble. He meant well, just had a sense of adventure! Good, good times.
God Bless his family.

I have such fond memories of working on St. Paul’s Landscaing with Jim. I learned much from him. I have never seen anyone put down sod as fast as he could! Seemed as if the air was full of grass as he effortlessly tossed it into place.

I was one of those young kids Jim gave a chance at Big Cheese Pizza. He made me a gm at 19 and the things I learned from him were invaluable in furthering myself. I only worked for him for a year but we continued a long friendship after I moved to Missoula. He will definitely be missed.

Grandpa Jim
It’s been almost ten years since you passed and on this day I was somehow brought back to this page. I read that comment I must have posted around then and it made me cry. We all miss you down here and I know you’re hanging around always. Thank you for your stories and your love.
Always, Rachel Daigneault
Julie Delauter says
Happy 80th Birthday, Dad! I think of you so often and have the picture of you wearing your white cowboy hat that I see each and every day. I also think of you and talk to you (as you know) every time I am snowmobiling up north. I miss you but know that I will see you again in Heaven and I thank God for that. Please give Palin and Bennie a hug for me. With Love Always, Julie.
