Jamey Vincent Smitham was born February 27th, 1960, in Bellingham, Washington, to parents Gary and Diana.
Jamey spent his childhood primarily in Washington and Alaska, playing hockey, riding motorcycles, and getting into trouble with his three younger brothers, Guy, Denny, and Paul.
In early adulthood, Jamey moved to Montana, where Kyle, his son with Susan Reed Sabol, was born in 1984.
In 1989, Jamey was married to Sherry Smitham-Bunker. Through that marriage, he built close relationships with his three stepdaughters (Tena Engelhardt, Brenda Pennington, and Jenni Brown), which continued after the dissolution of the marriage.
Jamey enjoyed spending time with his family, riding snowmobiles, fishing, restoring classic cars, and racing. He and his brothers were active in local stock car racing for many years.
In 2012, Jamey became a Grandpa, which was his true joy in life. He loved to spoil his granddaughters, and rarely arrived for a visit without some special treat in hand.
Jamey passed away at home on March 3, 2018. He is survived by his mother, Diana Brodston (John), brothers Guy Smitham (Rachel) and Paul Smitham (Donise); stepbrothers Sean McKibben and Allen “Sport” McKibben; his son, Kyle Smitham (Natalie); his granddaughters, Mila and Alexa Smitham; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gary Smitham, and his brother, Dennis Smitham.
Jamey will be greatly missed by all of us who loved him.
A celebration of Jamey’s life will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, March 7th at the Eagles Lodge, 801 N. Fee Street.

Sandie and I were so shocked and saddened to hear about Jamey’s passing. We always enjoyed visiting with him and sharing grandparent status with him. He always had a present for the girls when he stopped at Kyle and Natalie’s, be it licorice, strawberries, or some toy. Jamey loved being a grandparent and was so proud of Kyle!
We always felt that he really loved Natalie and thought of her as a daughter. I wish we could be in Helena right now, but please know that all of you are in our thoughts, and have our heartfelt sympathy
