On July 23, 2017 Jared “Turkey-Butt” Pembroke lost his battle with the darkness. For 24 years he brightened our world with his ready hugs, great smiles, quick wit and bottomless caring for others.
Jared is survived by his: parents, James and Jeannine Pembroke; sister, Jacquelyn Pembroke; grandfather, Harold “Sonny” Pembroke; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He will be terribly missed. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Denis and Louise Vogt and grandmother, Valora Pembroke.
A celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29th at the Pembroke residence, 2945 Rocky Pine Dr., Helena, 59601. I was so shocked to hear of his passing. Jared and I were good buddies since freshman year of high school. He was always ready and willing to help others with whatever was needed. He was one of the best roommates I have ever had. Whether he knew it or not, Jared was a pretty big part of shaping my life. I’ll always remember the countless good times we had together. I’ll miss this guy deeply. I know he was a proud atheist, but I hope we meet again eventually.

Dear Pembroke family….we were very sad to read of your loss of Jared. We lost our only son, Landon, at age 24 on April 6, 2015. He committed suicide. There are no worthy words of comfort and time does not make the pain go away. My wife and I still cry at least once a day. I guess the only relief is that their demons and pain are gone. Suicide doesn’t really end the pain. It only transfers it to others. God bless you. Cherish the good memories.

I had the great honor of your trust as a parent soccer ‘coach’ back in the elementary school days and Jared was always among my favorite kids. He was such kind-hearted boy. I’m so very sorry. I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Jared. My question is why so many good, kind hearted younger people are feeling the need to die by suicide. I know this first hand as well. I know your pain. I wondered how I would get by from one day to the next. Some how you will. It will take time. Lots of time to just be able to go on with your life. Remember the good times. I know Jared would not want you to be sad. He is not in pain any longer. If you believe in God, then I believe our loved ones are together in Heaven. They are in a better place. They are with so many other good, kind, thoughtful people who would not want to hurt anyone. Just as Jared is.
I am not saying it is going to be easy by any means. It is a struggle minute by minute, then hour by hour, and eventually day by day. I know in Helena there is support group that can be very helpful. I am sure you have already been told about this group.

I am so sorry for your loss. It breaks our hearts when death separates us from the ones we love so much, especially when they are as young as Jared. The Bible assures us that God sees our pain and he will give you comfort and the strength necessary to endure. Dear Pembroke family, no words can soothe this pain, only prayer and time. I, too, saw my only child, Zander Emery, go to our Heavenly Father. He was 29. There is now a word that helps ‘define’ us parents, called Vilomah. It is Sanskrit meaning ‘against the natural order’. There are people we can talk to out there that share our pain. Because people in our lives will not remember as we have to as the days, months and holidays and years go by. Many will say and/or expect you to “get on with your life” and just not understand. What a handsome young man he was. He was beautiful. Too much so for this earth. Jared is happy and healthy and whole, safe in the arms of Jesus. Know that you will meet him there.
