In Memory Of

Jean E. Mundinger, age 97, of Allenspark, CO, recently of Helena

February 20, 1921 – January 1, 2019

Jean Ehrhardt Mundinger of Allenspark, Colorado and, recently, Helena, Montana, peacefully left this life on January 1, 2019. Jean was born on February 20, 1921, the only child of John J. and Katherine W. Ehrhardt, in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Jean’s father’s employment took the family to Asia. Jean spent most of her childhood at various locations in the Philippines, China and Japan.  She completed her formal education at the University of Arizona and Michigan State University.

Jean met her husband, Gerhard H. Mundinger, while attending the University of Arizona. They were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Tucson on January 24, 1942.  Their life journey together took them from Tucson to Madison, WI back to Tucson and then on to Denver, East Lansing, Ft. Wayne, Los Angeles, Boulder, Heidelberg, Germany  and, in retirement, Allenspark.

Jean was widowed in August 2000. Following the death of her husband, Jean was an active member of the Allenspark Hilltop Guild, a group that supported the Community Cupboard and volunteer fire department.  Jean also liked to travel.  In addition to regular visits with her children, she travelled to the Holy Land, Scandinavia, Germany, Australia and the Panama Canal Zone.  Jean moved to Helena in 2013 to reside at Touchmark, an assisted living facility.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children, Karen Graham (Steve) of Portland, OR; John (Gwynn) of Helena, MT; Gerhard (Sue) of Michigan City, IN; and, Paul (Amy) of Boulder, CO; ten grandchildren; and, ten great grandchildren.

The family is grateful for the care that Jean received from the staff at Touchmark, the St. Peter’s Health Palliative Care team and St. Peter’s Health Hospice.

Memorials in Jean’s name may be made to the University Lutheran Church Foundation or to the Allenspark Community Cupboard.

Jean loved humanity. She was a faithful wife; a loving mother who taught her children to be servants in their respective vocations; a gracious hostess; and, a loyal friend.  We will miss her.  A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Boulder, Colorado.

We have fond memories of time spent with Jean and

Some of my favorite memories of Jean is in our travels. Especially those of her fighting off the pigeons at St Luke’s Square in Venice and when she trekked through Hezekiah’s tunnel at the age of 89. She was a trouper and a great traveling companion. She could out walk many of her younger traveling companions. We will miss her

She was the best mother-in-law a guy could have.
