Jeannie “Kittie” Marie Davis, age 95, passed away on Monday, December 12th at the Masonic Home of Montana of natural causes. Jeannie, a longtime Montana resident, most recently resided in Helena and Bozeman. Kittie was born in Troutdale, Oregon in August of 1916. For the next 95 years, she tested and tasted life to its fullest. Her first husband, Jack Cowan, a test pilot for the Canadian Air Force provided the opportunity to experience life from a variety of locations. At the time of his death in 1972, they were residing in a bungalow on the Missouri River at Craig. After his death, she then married Dr. Clifford V. Davis, Dean at Montana State University where she was employed as a secretary and they spent some 27 years traveling the world and enjoying their home in Bozeman. Dr. Davis died in 2002 and she has resided in Bozeman and Helena close to her step-son and family, Jayne and Al Davis, since that time.
Political correctness was not in Kittie’s vocabulary. She always spoke from her heart and there was never any question about her position on anything. She greatly valued her many friends and enjoyed others who crossed her path. She was never one to hide or disguise her feelings and attitudes about anything. It was a virtue that those who knew her well recognized and appreciated.
Kittie was preceded in death by her parents, sister (Harriet), and husbands. She is survived by her step-children, Nancy and Gary Davies (Texas), Clifford Sewall and Dean Davis (Minnesota), Allan and Jayne Davis (Helena) and a Nephew Tony and Joy Grainger(Minnesota).
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home at 3750 North Montana Ave. Interment is scheduled at 12:30 p.m., January 20, 2012 at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Bozeman, Montana. I have wonderful memories of my most entertaining neighbor, Kittie. She loved pets, even my mutt, and could tell a story like no one else. I am smiling now just thinking of all her anecdotes. God bless her.

I am so sorry to hear that my “Aunt Jean” passed away. She was such a special person and I loved her very much. The last time I saw her was at my mom’s service in 2002 and she was still an amazing woman. She always had a smile on her face and in her heart. I miss her so…my sympathies to you all. Good Bye Aunt Jean…

While cleaning out my office, I came across a letter from Kittie – I had never actually met her, but I was the recipient of an endowed scholarship while a nursing student at Carroll College – we conversed every year and I really enjoyed her letters. The letter was dated June 11, 2009 – I had graduated in 1995. I believe that she created the scholarship in memory of Uncle Harold and Aunt Jessie as she notes they would be happy their hard-earned money was being put to good use.
I regret losing touch with her – as I write this it is Dec 2022 – I don’t expect anyone to see this, but if family does see this, please drop me a line RcopterN@msn.com
