Jerry was born October 6, 1931 to Vern and Marie Denzel of Convoy, OH. He was the oldest of three children. In 1949, he met Patricia Spieth before joining the U. S. Navy in 1950 and proudly serving until 1954. He was assigned to the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War. Pat and Jerry were married in April 1951. He trekked the California coast from San Francisco down to Port Hueneme in Oxnard to be with Pat for the birth of their first child, Brenda. The Densel family settled into their brand new home on Maples Road outside of Monroeville, IN in 1962. Jerry, Pat, and their daughters Brenda, Lisa, and Laura made many great family memories in that home. From family gatherings, constant phone calls from grandkids, homing pigeons and cookouts, there was never a dull moment. The family enjoyed countless camping trips, county fairs and road adventures that will live on in all their hearts and minds. He retired in 1990 from REA Magnet Wire with 35 years of service. In March of 1996, tragedy struck his life when Pat lost her battle with cancer. Grieving and in search for something else in his life, Jerry headed out west from his midwestern roots, Chapter 2 to come…… Jerry leaves behind his daughters, Lisa Bremerkamp and Laura (Thomas) Blauvelt; grandchildren, Alyssa (Dave Quinn) Lewandowski, Adam (Sarah) Lewandowski, Joshua (Patrice) Blauvelt, Tiffany (Joe) Bacon, and Matthew Blauvelt; great grandchildren, Autumn, August, Addie, Kylie, Lakyn, Mila, Barrett, Bane, and Felix; sister, Sondra Johnston, and son-in-law, Tom Lewandowski. He was preceded in death by wife Patricia Spieth, daughter Brenda Lewandowski, and brother Marlan Densel. Chapter 2 of Jerry’s life began when he arrived In Lincoln, Montana at the age of 65. His incredible passion for Montana was apparent from day one. He served as president of the Senior Center where he introduced the game of dominos, which is still played there today. He took a job mowing the grass at a local establishment, and delivered newspapers along Hwy 200 in the early dark mornings with his dog Windy. With his new partner, Jane Piilola, he immediately began to populate his life with pigeons, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, dogs (Windy and Spuds), and horses, all of which were loved and meticulously cared for throughout the day. He participated in every 4th of July parade, proudly riding his horse down Main Street Lincoln wearing his cowboy hat. He attended many ‘O-Mok-Sees’ and was proud of his awards as the oldest participant. He loved music and could “name that tune” in the first two notes. Of most importance during his Montana life, Jerry gained three more daughters, sons- in-law and several more grandchildren. He taught these grandchildren how to ride horses, drive the Bobcat, shoot guns and appreciate Glacier National Park, which he never tired of traveling through with one or more of the grandchildren along. He found a new passion, hosting hikers and cyclists from the Continental Divide Trail. Through this endeavor he impacted the lives of young folks from all over the world. His bathroom doors are full of the signatures of many, many of these young athletes with whom regularly stayed in contact throughout the years. He loved to host with Jane and together they planned several rendezvous at the “End of the Trail” where folks could shoot guns, throw axes, drink liquor, sleep in a tepee and grill hotdogs and marshmallows over a huge fire. Jerry’s Montana family that will miss him forever are, his partner, Jane Piilola, daughters Kayel (Bill) Jones, Kari (Tony) Hill, and Kris (Hans) Hoelstad; grandchildren, Brittaney, Bailey, Brenna, Scott, Sean, Tucker, Jack, Laramie, Krysten, Cody; great grandchildren, Henry, Finn, Hayvn, Korbyn, and Nova, and can’t forget the new great grand pup Arli, and his amazing cats, Callie and Ivan. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew. Jerry’s body may have grown old, but his spirit remained as a child his whole life. He was not a big man but had a big heart. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met. At this time, per Jerry’s request, there are no services planned. Condolences can be shared at www.aswfuneralhome.com.

Jerry was one of the HELPERS. He and Jane housed the dogs and my team for Race To The Sky,
Then, he helped me scour the Lincoln area looking for a dog that I lost for at least six weeks.
Never found the dog, but I sure found a good friend.
Via Con Dios, Amigo!

From the first time you met Jerry and Jane you were friends. The family of Canada Geese that took up residence with his chickens were quite a treat to see. He was such a joy to know.
